Mr. Colombo will give three masterclasses and one recital. Other events will occur on Saturday as part of the “8th Annual Bassoon Day at McGill.” Mr. Colombo’s recital, which takes place on Saturday, February 6th at 5:00 p.m., will also feature the participation of Montreal Symphony bassoonists Stéphane Lévesque, Martin Mangrum and Mathieu Harel, as well as pianist Louise Lessard. All events, including the concert, are free and open to the public, no tickets are required. In 1980 he obtained his « Diploma di Fagotto » in Milano Conservatory, studying with Evandro Dall’Oca. In 1984 he obtained his « 1er Prix de Virtuosité » in Geneva (Switzerland) Conservatory, where he studied with Roger Birnsting. Later he studied with Brian Pollard of the Royal Concertgebow Orchestra. From 1978 till 1981 he was Solo-Bassoon of the ensemble I Solisti Veneti and since 1983 he is Solo-Bassoon in the Lyon Opera Orchestra. Since 2002 he has taught at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Lyon (CNSM) and since 2005 also at the Conservatoire de Lausanne - Haute école de Musique (CH). He has been a member of the « Maurice Bourgue » Wind Ensemble. He has played as principal bassoon with many leading European Orchestras such as: Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, NDR Orchestra Hamburg, Ensemble Instrumental de Lausanne, Orchestre de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Orchestre National de Lyon under the baton of conductors Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly, Antal Dorati, Philippe Herrewege, sir Neville Marriner, Michel Plasson, Emmanuel Krivine, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Michel Corboz, Semyon Bychkov, sir John Eliot Gardiner, Kent Nagano, Ivàn Fischer et al…His interest in original instruments lead him to play with the « Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique » conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. He was Visiting Professor in Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, for the fall semester 2001/2002 and at Oberlin Music College for the spring semester 2003.
