Packing Suggestions

PACKING SUGGESTIONS Maximize the versatility of your travel wardrobe by packing clothing that can be layered. Wash-and-wear, lightweight, natural fabrics are recommended. As you pack, consider your own internal thermostat and personal tastes and adjust accordingly. EXPEDITION CLOTHING Sporty, light-weight clothing is a good basis for your wardrobe in Papua New Guinea. Loose, lightweight, wash- and-wear slacks, skirts, blouses, and T-shirts made of natural fibers and wick-a-way fabrics are recommended. The sun can be strong, so pack adequate sun-protective clothing and gear, sun hats, and sun block. Rain is also common in Papua New Guinea, so pack a rain jacket with a hood. Sturdy walking shoes with thick soles, or light hiking boots, are recommended for walking over the often-rough terrain. If you have weak ankles, high-top hiking boots will provide better support than shoes. Make sure your shoes or boots PAPUA are well broken-in before your trip. For protection against insect bites, long pants and long- sleeved shirts are useful as well. Also, bring along insect NEW GUINEA repellent with a high concentration of DEET. You may also consider permethrin spray, which can be applied directly to your clothing before departure and lasts up to three washings, or clothing with insect-repellent already bonded to the fabric, such as Buzz Off clothing. more ...> PACKING LIST Clothing Miscellaneous Pants or long travel skirts Sunblock and lip balm with SPF Loose shorts Polarized sunglasses Moisture wicking or polyamide material shirts Water bottle Long-sleeved shirt/blouse Backpack/daypack for excursions Rain jacket with hood and waterproof pants Personal first-aid kit Sweater or jacket Physician’s summary (if applicable) Light scarf or bandanna Spare pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses Walking shoes or light hiking boots Pocket tissues Sports sandals (such as Tevas) Personal toiletries Socks Binoculars Sun hat Waterproof or “dry” bags for binoculars/ Swimsuit camera equipment Sarong Travel alarm clock Pajamas Camera, batteries, memory cards & thumb drive/USB Electrical converter and adapter Flashlight/headlamp Notebook and pen Sewing kit (checked luggage only) Plastic or Ziploc bags Baggage locks Carry-on Luggage Trekking/hiking poles (optional) Passport/airline E-ticket receipts/itinerary Photocopies of documents/tickets Two extra passport photos Credit cards Cash Prescription medicine Glasses or contact lenses (and solution) Camera, batteries, memory cards/film, thumb drive Change of clothing in the event your luggage is delayed Ear plugs, neck rest & eye shade Any other valuables you may want to carry with you, such as your camera.
