New York Theatre Workshop Executive Assistant About New York Theatre Workshop: At New York Theatre Workshop, we work relentlessly to empower visionary theatre‐makers and bring their work to adventurous audiences through productions, artist workshops and educational programs. We nurture pioneering new writers like Hammaad Chaudry and Nathan Alan Davis alongside powerhouse playwrights like Amy Herzog and Ayad Akhtar. We engage inimitable auteur‐directors like Rachel Chavkin and Sam Gold and give invaluable support to tremendous talents like Lileana Blain‐Cruz in the earliest days of their careers. Since our founding in 1979, we've produced over 150 fully‐realized productions including Jonathan Larson's Rent; Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul; Doug Wright's Quills; Claudia Shear's Dirty Blonde; Rick Elice’s Peter and the Starcatcher; Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová and Enda Walsh’s Once; and David Bowie and Enda Walsh’s Lazarus. Enabling our artists to push boundaries generates work like Anaïs Michell’s stirring and unforgettable Hadestown, Geoff Sobelle’s magical and transformative The Object Lesson and Mfoniso Udofia’s epic, sweeping two‐part cycle, Sojourners & Her Portmanteau. NYTW productions have received a Pulitzer Prize, seventeen Tony Awards and numerous Obie, Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards. But that’s not what we’re proudest of. We take the greatest satisfaction from the community we’ve built, and the perspective‐shifting experiences we’ve delivered along the way. If that sounds like something you’re interested in too, we’d love to meet you. About the Team: The Artistic Director and Managing Director are the leaders of NYTW. They manage all of NYTW’s departments and oversee a wide range of artistic and administrative projects and initiatives. They are simultaneously responsible for the day‐to‐day realities of running an Off‐ Broadway theatre company and keeping a forward‐looking eye on the big picture. The Executive Assistant works closely with the Artistic and Managing Directors to accomplish these objectives and to streamline communications between the Executive department and vital NYTW constituencies including the staff, Board of Trustees, our extended artistic family, and other members of the theatre community. About the Position: Manages schedules, travel, contacts, and correspondence for the Artistic and Managing Directors Tracks and executes action items on the Artistic and Managing Directors’ behalf Acts as the first point of contact for the Executive department on the phone and in‐ person Completes special projects as assigned, which have included serving as administrative lead on long‐term management projects, such as the implementing of a strategic plan, organizing and participating in Artistic Department long‐range planning, and researching and reporting on issues impacting the field Coordinates full staff initiatives and events Works closely with the Executive Fellow and supports their experience in their fellowship About You: You are committed to an equitable and inclusive community You have a passion for theatre and a desire to build meaningful connections between adventurous theatregoers and visionary artists You build strong, collaborative relationships with staff, Board members, and donors alike You are organized, proactive and a problem solver You have the ability to prioritize You have strong written and verbal communication skills You are interested in the management of not‐for‐profit cultural institutions Bonus: You have prior office and/or assisting experience You have a working knowledge of the New York theatre world This is a full‐time position, eligible for over‐time.
