BACHELOR OF ECONOMICS (BEcon) Program Requirements The study of economics is central to an understanding of business, markets, trade, government policies and international issues, globalisation, health, development, and the environment. This program is for students intending to become economists and analysts in the public and private sectors and leads to careers in business, finance, international development, health, human resource management, marketing, management and research. The School of Economics is the State's largest, most experienced and influential economics school. Graduates are equipped to work on important policy and decision challenges in business and government. The program focuses on the resource allocation and decision making. Students can pursue individual interests and professional specialisations through a wide choice of courses. Study areas available include business economics; economic history; econometrics; environmental and resource economics, financial markets; labour economics; health economics; international trade and development; macroeconomics; and microeconomics. Bachelor of Economics (BEcon) A student is required to obtain #48 from the BEcon List comprising - #20 of compulsory courses from Group 1; and #4 from Group 2; and #10 from Group 3; and #14 of elective courses (no more than #8 may be from level 1 courses) including – o #4 from Groups 2, 3 or 4; and o #10 of general elective courses from Groups 2, 3 or 4, or from almost any other undergraduate program in the University as approved by the Executive Dean. Students wishing to complete a major in either International Trade and Finance, Business and Industry, or Quantitative Methods will need to complete six courses from the BEcon List for the relevant major, of which #6 must be level 3 courses. Regardless of which major is chosen, the courses comprising the major must meet the Group 3 and elective program requirements. Students who must study MATH1040 as a general elective are not eligible for two majors under the single program and may not be eligible for a major in some dual degree programs with BEcon.
