The State of Plastic Recycling

The State of Plastic Recycling ANNUAL REPORT 2020 - KEY FINDINGS - MEXICO Sustainability is one of the most pressing challenges we are facing as a global community – and it can only be solved by working together. This requires a clear understanding of consumer attitudes toward plastics recycling as well as the facts around them. In the first State of Plastic Recycling Annual Report, new findings are presented from a consumer survey conducted by YouGov, which Hi-Cone commissioned to better understand the opportunities and challenges in advancing the circular economy for the food and drinks packaging industry. The survey covered 5,509 adults across four markets – Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States, of which 1,002 were from Mexico. The survey found several striking results, such as: 1 Mexican adults were the least likely to report recycling all of their plastic waste. Only 12% of Mexican adults reported recycling all of their plastic waste. 45% 38% 26% 12% 11% of Mexican adults reported they do not recycle any plastic waste. ADULTS THAT RECYCLED ALL OF THEIR PLASTIC WASTE. Despite reporting recycling plastic the least, almost all Mexican adults (94%) believed 2 that recycling plastics is beneficial to the environment. 82% of Mexican adults, who do not 94% - it’s beneficial currently recycle all of their plastic waste, think they are not recycling as much plastic as they should, compared 82% - not doing enough to 69% of adults across all territories.
