SATURDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER 2018: CHECKPOINT X JOHNNIE WALKER PRESENTS R3HAB, WITH HONG & JEREMY BOON Throughout a career span of 11 years, Fadil El Ghoul a.k.a. R3HAB has continued to ascend the ranks of superstardom sans stopping. A multi-million selling and platinum award winner, Jay Sean holds a songbook of nostalgic bops which dominated the mainstream airwaves with titles like ‘Eyes on You’ (2004), ‘Ride It’ (2006) and ‘Do You Remember’ (2010). Most recently, he revisited the Sean Paul collaboration with the release of ‘Make My Love Go’, a new dancehall-infused jam, and lent his vocals to Hardwell’s ‘Thinking About You’. Coming in hot for the next instalment of Crowd CTRL, will be California native, Ookay (pronounced “okay”). One of America’s most impressive and youngest dance music exports in the recent years, Ookay has come a long way since his Beatport top 10 debut. Having honed his chops over the years, the DJ-producer has firmly established his place as a Trap-style and EDM key player with the backing of industry icons like Diplo, Chuckie, Tiesto, Major Lazer, Showtek and many more, along with a string of singles including “Thief”, “Chasing Colours” with Noah Cyrus, and his latest album release, “Wow! Cool Album!”. Always fun, charismatic and theatrical with genuine skills to work the crowd, Ookay’s set are known to be paved with pleasers and adrenaline chasers made to tear up dance floors. SATURDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2018: CROWD CTRL WITH PEGBOARD NERDS, SUPPORTED BY HONG & LENERD Pegboard Nerds is the anagram of Danish-Norwegian electronic music duo’s surnames, DJ Alexander Odden and Michael Parsberg. Prior to coming together in 2011, the two already established a strong industry presence with individual successes since the 90s. Stronger and even more unstoppable as a team, the duo went on to achieve career highs with releases including their Pink Cloud EP which peaked at #2 on iTunes Dance Albums, the dubstep anthem “Superstar” which topped the Beatport Dubstep charts in 2016, Nerds by Nature EP which reached #12 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic charts in 2017, and the recent five track adrenaline EP, Full-Hearts. Exuberant with a video game aesthetic, the Pegboard Nerds sound is a mash of future bass, dubstep, glitch hop and a lot of chiptune; a sure-fire formula that will have crowds bouncing and thrashing all night. WEDNESDAY, 5 SEPTEMBER 2018: PHUTURE DJ BATTLE, LIVE ELIMINATIONS Refreshed to amp up the competitiveness of the series, this year’s PDJB live round will feature an elimination format which pits finalists against one another through back-to-back 1- vs-1 sets. Prior to the battle, contestants will be given till the event day itself to produce four sets of three-minute tracks that will best showcase their chops across showmanship, originality, track selection, skill and crowd presence. Immediately at the end of each round, the judging panel of veteran local DJs will cast votes for their favourite by raising placards to select the winner. The battle will continue for three elimination rounds to narrow the pool from Top 8, Top 4 to Top 2, until one is left standing. Hosted by and fronted by DJ LeNerd, attendees will also get to witness showcases by two of the judges, visit pop-up booths by Swatch and Visual Mass, and nab giveaways from ZALORA and Adidas. WEDNESDAY, 12 SEPTEMBER 2018: LIQUID STATE X ZOUK PRESENTS ALAN WALKER, SEUNGRI & CORSAK, SUPPORTED BY GHETTO On 12 September, Zouk will be the performance ground for an all-star lineup of electronic acts to ‘The Lion City’ on the night, with Alan Walker, Seungri of Big Bang fame and Liquid State’s brand new signee and Chinese wunderkind, CORSAK headlining proceedings. Adding to the stellar cast, Zouk resident Ghetto will be providing support to keep energy levels high, along with several other surprise live performances set to run throughout the night. The Liquid Nights show officially closes five big nights of the Music Matters Live 2018 festival, taking place across Clarke Quay and other partner venues on Sep 7-12.
