Achievement Rewards for College Scientists - San Diego Chapter “Advancing Science in America”® About Our Scholars Scholar Awards Granted: ARCS Scholars represent an elite group of students selected by their 2014-2015 Academic Year — $400,000 faculty for their recognized achievements and for their exceptional $7,500 Graduate Scholar Awards: 48 promise to contribute substantially to their fields. San Diego ARCS Scholars can boast of a $5,000 Undergraduate Scholar Awards: 2 98% graduation rate, compared with the national rate for graduate students in the sciences and engineering of 60%. Funds invested in our Scholars pay dividends for generations to come. Projected Scholar Awards: 2015-2016 Academic Year — $445,000 Scholar Selection $7,500 Graduate Scholar Awards: 54 Scholars must be U.S. citizens and meet ARCS-established $5,000 Graduate Scholar Awards: 6 academic criteria of a 3.5 GPA pursuing undergraduate and $5,000 Undergraduate Scholar Awards: 2 graduate degrees in a wide range of subjects. Beyond the general area of science, engineering and medical research, these Scholars are specializing in astronomy, biochemistry, botany, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, computer science, ecology, engineering, genetics, marine biology, mathematics, oceanography, physics and more. Allocation of ARCS Scholar Awards 4% The amount of funding available for ARCS Scholar Awards is 8% calculated each year by using a distribution formula based on 26% the percentage of eligible scholars enrolled at each ARCS- approved recipient university. Therefore, for the 2014-2015 academic year, awards were allocated as follows: USD TSRI SDSU UCSD 62% 6 13 6 The formula includes ranges to permit adjustments to a rigid mathematical percentage allocation of funds to preclude partial awards or to meet the minimum number of mandated scholar awards. 56 scholars received awards in 2014-2015, and 62 scholars are projected to receive awards 31 in the 2015-2016 academic years.
