Bush, a Republican presidential candidate and former Florida governor, announced Oliver’s John Leachman appointment June 24. He also serves as a senior adviser to Barclays Capital (formerly Lehman Brothers) providing relationship management for top clients across investment banking, capital markets and private wealth management. Oliver has worked at the highest level of national and state politics. During the 2004 presidential campaign, he served as an adviser and strategist for the Bush-Cheney ’04 presidential campaign. As national finance vice chairman for Bush-Cheney ’04 and Victory 2004, Oliver managed the campaign’s $240 million finance plan. Time Page 1 of 3 magazine described Oliver as “the man largely responsible for what is being heralded as the most formidable money machine in modern political history.” Previously, he served as deputy chairman of the Republican National Committee, a role that required him to oversee all day-to-day operations of the 2002 congressional campaigns. Under his leadership, the Republicans made historic midterm gains in the House and Senate. Oliver also served as the national finance director for then-Gov. George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign and managed a fundraising effort in the primary and general elections that broke all previous presidential fundraising records. Before joining the Bush campaign in 1999, Oliver served in various political, financial and managerial roles in the campaign and congressional offices of Sen. John Ashcroft, Sen. John Danforth, Sen. Kit Bond, Rep. Jim Talent, Rep. Bill Emerson as well as the Missouri Republican Party. Among his numerous civic involvements, Oliver served for two years as co- chairman of the ONE Campaign, an organization founded by U2’s Bono and supported by the Gates Foundation with the mission to raise public awareness about global poverty and disease in developing countries.
