Guangxi Information Overview Guangxi , nicknamed, “Gui” for short, shares a border with neighboring provinces Yunnan to the west, Guizhou and Hunan to the North, and Guangdong to the east. Not only does Guangxi have neighboring provinces, but it also has a neighboring country of Vietnam to the south. The capital city of Guangxi is Nanning. Geography This region is surrounded by mountains while the central area has rolling hills and plains. The area is also well-known for its landscape of irregular limestone formations which have produced many natural scenic spots that have deemed this location as one of the most beautiful locations in the world, as well as a very popular tourist site. Major tourist sites in Guangxi include Guilin, the Li River, the West Hills in Guiping, Huashan, and the Silver Beach in Beihai. Economy Liuzhou city is Guangxi’s main industrial area as well as a major automobile manufacturing center. Liuzhou is also home to a large steel factory and several other related industries. Guangxi is known for their production of rice, maize, sweet potatoes, and wheat. The province’s major cash crops include sugar cane, peanuts, tobacco, and kenaf. Demographics Guangxi is home to many ethnic groups, but mainly the Han Chinese. Main subgroups of the province include those that speak Southwestern Mandarin and Cantonese. Pinghua and Zhuang are also some of the dialects that are heard. This region is also home to more than 14 million Zhuang, which make up the largest ethnic minority in China. More than 90% of Zhuang in China reside in Guangxi. Other ethnic groups include Dong, Miao, Yao, ui, Yi, Shui, and gin. There is also a minor Christian population. .
