Patrice Johansen JOMEJA RHODESIAN RIDGEBACKS (Queensland, Australia) Patrice’s first introduction to Rhodesian Ridgebacks was in 1972, but it wasn’t until1976 that Patrice acquired her first pair of Ridgebacks. Over the next few years Patrice was fortunate enough to have Ridgebacks in a working environment, and the opportunity to appreciate what these dogs were bred for. Patrice and Jomeja Ridgebacks became successfully involved in various arenas including obedience, agility, security, and of course showing, breeding and judging. Jomeja hounds have achieved major success over the years, with National, International and Breed Specialist judges awarding: • Multiple Best in Show All Breeds and Specialty Show • Multiple Runner Up Best In Show All Breeds and Specialty Show • Multiple Best Gait, Head and Ridge property classes at Specialty Show • Multiple Most Successful Breeder Awards And achieving: • Multiple Australian and New Zealand Champions • First Queensland bred dual titled Australian and New Zealand Champion • First Queensland bred E. T. (Endurance Test) and E.T. /A. D. (Agility Dog) titled Ridgeback • First U.S bred and titled Ridgeback imported into Australia • First ANKC Breed Specialist Judge’s Licence for Queensland Patrice has also owned and shown/bred Bull Terriers, Miniature and Giant Schnauzers, Greyhounds, Whippets and Bluetick Coonhounds. Patrice has held various positions within the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Qld Inc.: • Vice President • Secretary • National Council Representative • currently the National Convener and Show Secretary Patrice’s involvement in other clubs include: • Hound Club of Queensland • Secretary for Ipswich Kennel Club (All Breeds) Patrice is the current President of the National Rhodesian Ridgeback Council in Australia. Patrice is involved in breed lectures for the Rhodesian Ridgeback and Bluetick Coonhound in the Queensland judges’ training scheme. Patrice is currently an open show judge for: Afghan Hound Deerhound Australian Dingo Finnish Spitz Basenji Foxhound Basset Fauve de Bretagne Greyhound Basset Hound Hamilstonstovare Beagle Harrier Bloodhound Ibizan Hound Bluetick Coonhound Irish Wolfhound Borzoi Norwegian Elkhound Dachshund (Long Haired) Otterhound Dachshund (Min.Long Haired) Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Dachshund (Smooth Haired) Pharaoh Hound Dachshund (Min. Smooth Haired) Rhodesian Ridgeback Dachshund (Wire Haired) Saluki Dachshund (Min Wire Haired) Sloughi Whippet Patrice’s judging appointments for these breeds include: • Gold Coast Canine Club 2004 • Basset Club of Queensland 2004 • Gundogs and Heavy Breeds Club 2005 • Hound Club of Queensland 2005 • Ipswich Kennel Club 2006 Patrice is also an Open judge for all Non Sporting Dogs and aspirant for all Utility Dogs (Australia) Patrice has judged Rhodesian Ridgebacks in Victoria and Queensland at All Breed Championship shows and judged Championship Rhodesian Ridgeback Specialties for: • New Zealand Rhodesian Ridgeback League • Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the Australian Capital Territory • Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Western Australia • Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Queensland Inc. • Atlanta Kennel Club - Georgia (USA) 2005 • Rhodesian Ridgeback Championship Specialty Show Sweden 2005 • RRCUS (property class) National – Georgia (USA) 2005 Patrice hopes to have many more years’ involvement with this great breed. .
