8th Grade Band Objectives Students will be able to demonstrate, identify and define the following: 1. Knows instruments parts and assembly 2. Knows instrument care 3. Proper playing posture 4. Proper hand positions 5. Fingerings, slide positions, stickings 6. Centered tone 7. Ability to adjust intonation 8. Ability to discriminate different pitches 9. Identifies correct/incorrect pitches within context of a key signature 10. All 12 major scales, chromatic scale within range of instrument; demonstrate minor scales as encountered in literature. 11. Proper embouchure 12.Rhythms: whole, half, dotted half, quarter, dotted quarter, eighth, 16th, dotted 8th, 8th/16th combinations, double dotted combinations, 8th note triplet, quarter note triplet, half note triplet notes & rests, syncopation 13.Dynamics: pianissimo, piano, mezzo piano, mezzo forte, forte, fortissimo, crescendo, decrescendo, fortepiano, sfzortzando, diminuendo, morendo, stringendo 14. Articulations: tie, slur, staccato, accent, tenuto, marcato, legato 15. Time signatures: 3/4, 4/4, 2/4, common time, cut time, 2/2, 3/8, 6/8, 5/8, 7/8, 9/8, 12/8, 5/4, 6/4, 3/2 16. Students will gain an understanding of the relationship between music, the other arts, history and cultures. Students will listen, analyze, and evaluate music and performance. Each student in band is responsible for keeping a record of their daily practice on a practice record provided by the band department. Each student will have his or her playing evaluated two to three times each grading period. Each student will complete written theory assignments assigned in class. Each student is expected to play in band concerts scheduled throughout the school year. .
