DEVIOT SAILING CLUB GEORGETOWN YACHT CLUB GEORGETOWN TO DEVIOT SAFARI 2018 NOTICE OF RACE 1. INTRODUCTION: Entries are invited for the Georgetown to Deviot Safari to be conducted by the Deviot Sailing Club in conjunction with the Georgetown Yacht Club on Saturday 24 March 2018. This is planned to be a fun social event rather than highly competitive race. Low water at Beauty Point is approx 1209 hrs, so boats will have the tide to assist them southwards. 2. Eligible classes All competitors must be a member of a Club affiliated with Sailing Australia, and have a Australian Sailing number. Eligible classes include: • International Mirror, Sabre, Flying 11, Laser, Pacer, NS14, Corsair, B14, 420, 470 29er, 505 • Catamaran classes and trailerable and keel boats, and motor boats. The Organizing Authority may refuse any entry for a boat deemed unsuitable for the event. All those taking part in this event do so at their own risk and responsibility. The Organizing Authority shall not be responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry has been accepted, or for the adequacy or sufficiency of its equipment. Attention is drawn to ISAF Fundamental Rule 4 which states, “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.” No member or members of the Organizing Authority, nor other party involved with this event, shall accept any responsibility for, or be liable for any accident, injury, damage or personal loss (material or otherwise) to any boat, participant or third party, before, during or after any race of the event. The safety of any boat and her entire management, including insurance, shall be the responsibility of the entrant of the event. 3. SAILING PROGRAMME: A Compulsory Race Briefing for all entrants will be held in the Georgetown Clubhouse at -: 1200 Hrs There will be four (5) start times-: 1. District Dinghies (International Mirror, Sabre, Flying 11, Laser, Pacer, Hartley 16): 1300 hrs 2. Slower keel boats 1315 hrs 3. NS14, 420, 470: 1330 hrs 4. Keel and other trailerable 1345 hrs 5. Catamarans, B14, 505, 1400 hrs Participating motor boats are expected to start at 1345 hrs. 4. COURSE The Start: The Starts will be in the bay immediately off Georgetown Yacht Club. Starting details will be provided in the sailing instructions. Middle Island is to be left to Starboard. The Finish: All boats will sail to Mowbray Point Mark C (permanent Orange buoy), then south to Mark E (permanent Orange buoy) and return north to the finish line in front of the Deviot Sailing Club (Yellow Inflatable buoy outer mark). All marks to Starboard. (See diagram below). Alternative Course in case of unfavourable weather: An alternative course in the vicinity of GTYC may be used in the case of unsuitable conditions for the course ending at Deviot (see Sailing Instructions). This may be utilised in the case of strong winds, and southerly winds. Boats must keep well clear of any commercial shipping. 5. RULES: All events shall be conducted under the Racing Rules of Sailing (2017-2020), the prescriptions and safety regulations of Sailing Australia, as modified by the safety instructions for this event. All classes 6. ENTRIES: Entry can be made on the day at GTYC on the event specific Entry Form. Note: incomplete entries will not be accepted Entry fee for All Boats $10.00 Entries close at GTYC at 1200 hrs 7. HANDICAPS Yardsticks for dinghy classes will be based on current version of Australian Sailing Yardsticks, http://www.sailing.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/171025-Australian-Sailing-Yardsticks- 17_18.pdf and http://www.sailing.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/171201-Australian-Sailing- Yardsticks-Catamarans-17_18.pdf The Organising Authority will determine arbitrary handicaps for Trailerable and Keel boats which will be based on the most current version of the ‘PCYC / TYC Handicaps’. 8. PRIZES Prizes will be presented to the fastest boats on a yardstick basis, or where 4 or more boats compete of the same class to the first boat of that class. The presentation will be made as soon as possible after the conclusion of the race at Deviot. 9. MEALS Sausages, hamburgers, cordial and water will be available all morning at George Town Yacht Club. The canteen at Deviot will be open following the Race and a meal will be available from 6pm ($20 per person). Numbers for the evening meal will be required by 12 noon on Friday 23. Please text or phone Tony Fist on 0417 384156. 10. ARRANGEMENTS The boat shed at Deviot will be open from 9am to 10am on Sat 18 February for Deviot members to collect their boats. Dinghies will not be towed from Deviot to Georgetown by Deviot rescue boats. Andy Hamilton (0437655066) can transport people from Deviot to Georgetown at 11am on Saturday morning. Boats can be left at George Town Yacht Club for Friday night. George Town Yacht Club will be open Friday evening and early on Saturday morning. Boats overnighting at Deviot on Saturday night can utilise the club facilities, and some moorings will be available. .
