DENGUE I OUTBREAK / WALLIS & FUTUNA 2002 - 2003 SITUATION AS AT 15/06/2003 Dr J-F YVON, Sia Hospital, Wallis · Total cases seen (ADS): 2622 à Wallis : 2357 à Futuna : 265 · including probable cases : 1632 · including confirmed cases : 170 à 153 on Wallis and 17 on Futuna · Cases hospitalised since the beginning of the outbreak : 302 à hospitalisations on Wallis: 267 à hospitalisations on Futuna: 35 · Deaths : 2 (DSS) v On Wallis, only sporadic cases persist. For Week 23, 6 probable cases (out of 20 declared cases) were reported and only 3 probable cases (out of 9 declared cases) for Week 24. v On Futuna, the outbreak has taken a pause; the intensive control measures taken against larval breeding areas and spraying to kill adult mosquitoes seem to have confined the outbreak. However, this slowdown may just be temporary and the measures put into place must be continued (the beginning of week 25 tends to confirm this theory with an upsurge in cases seen in office visits). To date, no severe or grave forms have been reported.
