In spite of Eid-Ul-Adha from 1st to 4th September cast sheep and fat lambs were a far better trade than anticipated. The better lambs could do over £2/kilo. The overall average would have been higher if some of the lightweights had been sold as sotres. The 40-46 kilo meated lambs were particularly good to sell. Breeding sheep started at 11.30am. Goats were a flying trade! The ewes were good to sell, particular note a batch of 83 four-crop Cheviot ewes all sold to the same purchaser at £71 each. Shearlings followed. Trade was variable but plenty Mules in the £125-£145 bracket. Best Texels from Matt Carefoot at £162. Gimmer Lambs next. Mules were a very pleasing trade indeed. The best over £100 time and time again. Show results as above. Best Continental gimmers and better end of Texel x Mules were much in demand. Pleasing to welcome new faces to the store lamb section and great to see some bigger batches of 40, 50 & 60 lambs in the ring selling away very nicely.
