Venue: Foyer 6 Satirical Drawings Duration: 14.7. - 29.7.2011 The artist is engaged and uncompromising in his political commentary and social critique. He uses surrealistic images and visual metaphors mixed with black humour. Concrete and contemporary topics that are known from media are presented in a different form. Jacek Dehnel (born 1980 in Gda ńsk), is a poet, writer and translator.The Polish author will read from two books of hisfamous novels: "Lala" is a novel about an elderly Polish lady, who retells her whole life to her grandson.."Saturn" tells the story of three men from the Goya family, the famous Spanish painter. His novel “Lala” has been translated to eight languages (three other will follow), the copyrights to “Saturn” have already been sold to Germany, The Netherlands and Great Britain. Partner: Cultural Service of the Polish Embassy in Belgium Marie Vernissage: 3.10.2011 Venue: Atrium/Foyer 6 Sklodowska-Curie Duration: 3. – 7.10.2011 The exhibition will be shown during the thematic week on 'Chemistry as Culture'.carried out in the framework of the International Year of Chemistry. It will present the life and work of the Polish born nobel prize winner Marie Sklodowska-Curie seen from the perspecitve of being a foreign, female student and later researcher at her time. Partners: Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union, Polish Science Contact Agency Launch: 25.10. 2011 Poems in the Duration: long-term project Underground The EESC will take part in the campaign "Poems Pick a Poem on the Underground", which is put down in the official calendar of the Polish EU presidency. Poems translated into different languages will be displayed in the EESC buildings on walls at different places and can be taken away by passers-by. The EESC will integrate this activity as 'Pick a Poem' into its long-term cultural programme as an interactive approach towards literary culture in Europe. Partners: British Council, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mayor of Warsaw, Polish Ministry of Culture Come'N'Listen – Date: 26.10.2011 Venue: VM2, La Brasserie Polish Film Music Following the concept of the Come'N'Listen series of musical events this time Polish film music will be highlighted. Internationally renowned Polish films will be presented from their musical perspective. The event will be a mixture of live presentations with piano and saxophone interventions, film scenes and background information putting Polish films into their European context. Date: 28.10 – 18.11.2011 Czeslaw Milosz – Venue: Foyer 6 Exhibition In order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of this Polish poet, novelist, translator and Literature Nobel Prize winner (1980) the Polish members suggested to host an exhibition at the EESC. The exhibition presents Milsosz's poems and his life and also asks important questions about the future of intercultural dialogue on European borderlands. It mostly focuses on the relation of cultures, languages and nations that the poet comes from and that are reflected in his poetry. Artists for Europe – Date: 13. – 14.7.2011 Exhibition Venue: Charlemagne Presentation on plasma screens during the plenary Date: 7.12. – 22.12.2011 Venue: Foyer 6 This exhibition is another in ‘The Great Poles’ series. Portrait photographs of nearly one hundred prominent artists have been made by Czesław Czapli ński. The people captured within the photographic frame are actors, architects, conductors, film directors, photographers, graphic designers, instrumentalists, composers, painters, musicians, writers, poets, poster artists, directors, sculptors, scene designers and translators. Each of the portrayed individuals associate their artistic achievements and their European prestige with Poland. Partner : Royal Łazienki Museum, Warsaw .
