THE 69th ANNUAL REPORT Your Committee in presenting their Report for the year 1923 desire once again to congratulate the Society on its continued activity and usefulness, much having been accomplished during the past year. All the Bi-Monthly Meetings have been well attended, the papers read or Lectures given and exhibits being much appreciated. The Committee wish to give expression to their regret for the loss by death of the following members:—Aid. A. E. Sawday, F.R.I.B.A., G. H. Woolley, Esq., and Mr. R. W. Satchell. We congratulate our former President, the Rt. Rev. F. T. Woods, D.D., until recently Bishop of Peterborough, on his translation to the See of Winchester, and the Ven. Archdeacon W. G. Whittingham on his recent consecration as Bishop of the Diocese of Ipswich and St. Edmundsbury. Twenty-one members have resigned from the Society, whilst thirty-four new members have been elected, making a net gain of ten after allowing for the three deceased members. The first was to Peterborough Cathedral on Thursday, May 31st, when about 90 members and friends were received by the Dean at the Deanery and the Bishop at the Palace. The Minster and Pre­ cincts were inspected with interest, and many present listened to the description of the fabric given by Canon H. K. Fry, F.S.A., of Higham Ferrers. Lunch and tea were provided in the Palace Gardens. The second, a half-day excursion to Coventry, took place on Thursday afternoon, August 30th. The ancient churches, hospitals and old buildings of the City were described by Mr. Philip B. Chatwin, F.R.I.B.A., and Miss D. Harris, and were much appreciated by the 30 members and friends who took part. The arrangements for these excursions were ably made and carried out by Rev. Canon S. T. Winckley, the Hon. Organising Secretary. It is hoped that the summer excursions will be maintained and become a part of the Society's activities. On Monday, September 17th, the Society was favoured with a visit to Leicester of about 30 members of the Thoroton (Notts.) Society, who were conducted by Major Freer, F.S.A., Messrs. IV. LEICESTERSHIRE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY. T. H. Fosbrooke, F.S.A., H. Hartopp and W. During the year 1923 Part 1 of Vol. XXXVI of " Reports and Papers " containing with other items " Notes on the History of the Manor of Withcote " and Part 2 Vol. XII of the Society's Transactions have been issued to members. The latter contains several papers of local interest. The Society desires to take this opportunity of expressing its thanks to Messrs A. Hamilton Thompson, F.S.A., Litt.D., T. H. Fosbrooke, F.S.A., A. Herbert and George Farnham, F.S.A., the contributors to the latter publication. Suitable papers of local interest or stray archeeological notes will be gladly received by any of the Secretaries for consideration for insertion in future publications. REPORT V.
