This year we celebrate our 50th Anniversary in Maui, the second largest Hawaiian island, where you will find over 120 miles of pristine red, black and white sandy beaches. Take the time to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Haleakala, go hiking, or simply relax by the beach. Maui has set the stage with one of the most beautiful natural backdrops for our extraordinary scientific program, collaborative presentations, and the celebration of our college’s history. We have a very exciting meeting where we will experience how experts in different fields join together to collaborate and provide phenomenal presentations. The solid scientific program boasts 65 oral presentations and 68 posters. Once again, we have invited “In-Depth” speakers to headline the opening day at 8 am. Drs. Cameron Whittaker and Gladys Boo will co-present a 50-minute presentation on Advanced Corneal Endothelial Transplantation; DSEK and DMEK, followed by an excellent series of corneal abstract presenters. We will also host a concurrent exotics scientific session Thursday after lunch. The planning committee is ecstatic to have Dr. Claire Simeone, the first veterinarian selected as a TED fellow, and veterinarian to the world’s largest marine mammal rehabilitation hospital, as the “In Depth” speaker leading this session at 1:30 pm. Note that these sessions will be recorded so that you may view them post conference. For a long time, I have envisioned honoring our mentors and founding fathers of our college. What a better time to celebrate our career’s roots and recognize the ones who paved the road of excellence for our college during our 50th ACVO Anniversary. During the conference, we will host a founder’s presentation and film event, ‘Pioneering a Vision, Honoring ACVO’s Founders and History’, where we will share with you a historical documentary that will unveil our College’s history told by our own founding fathers. It is an honor to be part of this project and I would like to thank Dr. Phil Pickett and his son, Matthew Pickett, for pouring out their hearts and passion in making this a reality. This would have not been possible without the help of Drs. Wendy Townsend, Terah Webb, our founding fathers and all our members who participated in this film. We would like you to join us in recognizing their valued contributions and celebrate with them how they have brightened our future. We want them to know you are part of this event so we will have a place for you to share a note of gratitude on the impact they have made. Make sure you take the time to write a note, we will share it with them in a special way. You cannot miss the Keynote presentation on how making mistakes and self-forgiveness can influence the surgical outcome and well-being of our patients. Drs. Chris Murphy, Sara Thomasy, Nandini Gandhi, and Mark J. Mannis are our Keynote Lecturers on ‘Making Mistakes: “The Importance of Forgiveness”. This team of experts in veterinary and human ophthalmology will provide our residents and interns an excellent Residents’ Workshop on fundamentals of microsurgery. This program will be recorded should any of our Diplomates wish to access this material as well. Thank you to Drs. Chris Murphy, Sara Thomasy, Nandini Gandhi, and Mark J. Mannis for their collaborative efforts on these presentations. We would also like to thank our course organizers, Dr. Margie Gilmour for the Teaching and Learning Meeting, Dr. Joe Wolfer for the Vitreous Society Meeting, and Dr. Wendy Townsend for the General Practitioners Course. Dr. Wendy Townsend has lined up wonderful speakers for our General Practitioners’ Course on Saturday. Special thanks to our speakers and fellow ACVO Members: Drs. Kathy Good, Stephanie Beaumont, Gia Klauss, Holly Hamilton, Kate Myrna, and Gil Ben-Shlomo. Returning this year, the ‘ACVO Career Fair’ will take place on Thursday during lunch time, 12-1:30pm. The Career Fair is a member benefit (the opportunity to host a table). The fair is complimentary for residency and training programs to present, and will provide all attendees a connection point for those seeking a residency, internship, or DVM position with member diplomates who are seeking to fill such positions. Conference attendees will find ‘table-hosts’ via a table marker and map to facilitate identify the point of interest. Make sure to check out the detailed position descriptions hosted in the ‘on-site’ tab on the conference
