LANGUAGE The English written language is the only acceptable language for all official communications relating to these Competition Rules and the conduct of all Wildwater Canoeing ICF competitions. For the sake of consistency, British spelling, punctuation and grammatical conventions have been used throughout. Any word which may imply the masculine gender, also includes the feminine. GENERAL REGULATIONS 1 AIM [GR] 1.1 The object of Wildwater Canoeing is to demonstrate a competitor's mastery of his/her boat in fast moving white water, while running a prescribed course in the shortest possible time. 1.2 Races considered to be Wildwater Canoeing are those held from a point upriver to a point downriver. A river can be one that is natural, modified or artificial and must be at least class III in difficulty. 2 INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION [GR]/ [TR] 2.1 All competitions announced as international shall be governed by the rules of the ICF. 2.1.1 Competitions organised by a Federation or its affiliated associations are always regarded as international if foreign competitors are invited and participate. 2.2 An international competition must be supervised by at least one judge who holds a valid card as an International Judge Wildwater Canoeing (IJWWC). 2.2.1 These officials are appointed by the Chair of the WWCC from nominations submitted by the organisers. 2.2.1.1 Room and board for these officials is paid by the organising Federation. 2.3 International Competitions: International Competitions are open to all Federations. 2.3.1 The start order for international competitions is taken from the current ICF Ranking. 2.4 Type of ICF competitions: There are four levels of international competitions: ICF Wildwater Canoeing Competition Rules 2015 6 Type of Competition Entries Competition ICF World Championships LEVEL 1 4 boats per event ICF Junior and U23 (see chapter IV and V) per federation ICF World Championships COMPETITION LEVEL 2 ICF World Cup 6 boats per event (see chapter VI) per federation ICF Ranking Event LEVEL 3 (International event (see article 38.11.2) To be selected by ICF WWCC) determined by LEVEL 4 the organiser OTHER International event 3 COMPETITORS [GR] 3.1 Only the members of Clubs or associations affiliated with an ICF National Federation have the right to participate in an international competition. 3.2 A competitor is always allowed to take part individually in an international competition but must in each case obtain special permission from his National Federation. 3.3.1 A Competitor may take part on behalf of the Federation in a foreign country in which he is domiciled, if he/she obtains the authorisation of his/her Federation of origin. This authorisation has to be sent before 30th November prior to the year concerned to the ICF Headquarters with a copy to the Chair of the Wildwater Canoeing Committee. The same procedure applies, should the Competitor change back his/her starting right to the Federation of origin. 3.3.2 If he has lived for 2 years or more in this foreign country, the approval of his Federation of origin is no longer required. 3.3.3 A competitor may not compete for more than one Federation in any one calendar year in the sport of canoeing. This rule does not apply in the case of a competitor who leaves his country of origin to marry in another country. He can, in this case, compete for his new Federation without awaiting the delay of 2 years. 3.4 The first year, a junior competitor can compete is the year that his 15th birthday falls in and the last year ICF Wildwater Canoeing Competition Rules 2015 7 he may compete, as a junior is the year that his 18th birthday falls in. The last year he/she can compete in Under 23 category is the year that their 23rd birthday falls in. 3.5 A master competitor can compete in a Masters event in a year that he or she reaches the lower limit of the age category. (e. g. in the 35-39 age group he/she is eligible in the year of his or her 35th birthday). In events that have more than one competitor in the boat the age of the youngest competitor will determine the category in which a crew can compete. Age group categories will commence from 35-39 years increasing in 5 year age groups (40-44, 45-49, etc). 3.6 Each National Federation shall ensure that their competitors are in a good state of health
