Dave Goddard (away), Mark Chapman (with Aces) and Ben Rainger (exams) were replaced. Cornwall continued solidly losing just the odd wicket till Chemaly was run out at 155 after a mixup. Then more progress until 216 when Rav hit a purple patch with 5 wickets falling and only 6 runs added. Rav received excellent backing – Billy, very tight & tidy, Mitch – economical & Hillsy came back to capture the last 2 wickets. But it was Henry Glogau, on debut, who stole the show with his leggies in an 18 over spell in taking 1/55. That is, apart from Rav’s 5/57 – just another fabulous performance. An excellent, tidy performance and great start to the 2 Day campaign. Mike Ravlic – 5/57 off 22 overs! Henry Glogau on debut – 1/55 of 18 overs Men’s Premier Grade: Hedley Howarth Trophy – Major 2 Day Championship Round 2. 6 & 12 Nov. Parnell vs. Papatoetoe at Shore Road 1. This beat the previous record of 100 set by JR Lundon (53) and A Fairburn (41) against North Shore in 1913/14. Both Josh and Henry are new to Parnell – Josh has come over from AUCC and has represented Auckland U19s and EDCA Age Group teams. Henry, former Wellington College 1st XI captain joined us from Karori CC and played on Saturday as a replacement for Mark chapman (with the Aces) and in his own right on Sunday. And didn’t Henry make the most of his opportunity! Henry came in to join Josh at the calamitous total of 133/7 – Jack Coman, also on Prem debut, having been sadly run out. The two then quietly and without fuss played each ball on its merit and proceded to deal to an attack that, up till then had dominated the day. A quite wonderful effort which ended when Josh was stumped off that old campaigner, Bhupinder Singh, when the total was 236. Not the end of proceedings – Billy Sanger carried on the good work till he was caught, now 253/9. Enter Mike Ravlic – not many opportunities for our no. 11 but Rav made the most of this one. Henry then reached his maiden Prem 50 and Rav took toll of a tiring attack. Fifty five had been added for the 10th wicket when Rav succumbed (well short of Moore and Dow’s record 98 set in 1920/21). Henry, undefeated on 62 – a superb knock that rescued the team from a most perilous situation. Then, just time for us to bowl 6 overs and, from Rav’s 5th ball, Tim Mc. Picked up Aujla at 1st slip. And, to add the cherry to the icing on the cake, Josh had the Papatoe captain lbw to capture his first Prem wicket for Parnell, And so ended a momentous day – in fact, a momentous weekend! The record breaking partnership Josh Fisher – on the way to 63 Henry Glogau – 62* on his Premier debut weekend Early in the Parnell innings 1. Sam Varcoe, looking good and settling pulled a short one down Bhupiner’s throat at backward square leg 2. Tom Talbot, also looking good, was adjudged lbw when struck on his extended front pad 3. Jack Coman – on debut, was most sadly run out for 12 scored off 68 balls Men’s Premier Reserve Grade: Limited (50) Overs Minor Championship 5 Nov. After winning the toss, Parnell bowled H-P out in the 50th over for 213. The standout was once again Special K. Karoon took 4-50 off his 10 overs. He was ably assisted by our spinners Henk Conradie and Razin Bharde with two wickets each respectively. Chasing 214 to win, we made a solid start with Henk compiling an aggressive 33 at the top. H-P's spinners came on and dried up the scoring rate on a slow pitch. which resulted in regular wickets falling at inopportune times. It came down to us needing 9 off the last two overs to win the game with Raz and Karoon batting. K pumped a maximum over cow to get us within 1 run of victory then calmly hit the winning runs off the next ball. Win for the reserves by two wickets. An early finish. Winning the toss and bowling first, the Grafton side got away to a slow but steady start before it all fell apart on the unlucky number 13.
