Job Specification Assistant Coach – GB Rowing Team Junior Programme Post-holder: Job Title Assistant Coach – GB Rowing Team Junior Programme Reports to GB Rowing Team Lead Coach - Juniors Directorate Performance Location Home Line Reports Date July 2017 Purpose of Post The GB Rowing Team’s aim is to establish a ‘pathway to success’ for new and young talent to realise their full potential as senior team rowers, and achieve the targets set for Juniors and Young Seniors through the Development Programme. The post-holder will support the Lead Coach – Juniors in his work to produce successful GB Junior crews and consistent medal performance at the World Rowing Junior Championships and team performance at the Coupe de la Jeunesse. Accountability The post-holder is responsible to the Lead Coach – Juniors, and through him to the Chief Coach – U23s/Juniors and ultimately the Performance Director. Role Responsibilities • Supporting the Lead Coach – Juniors in his work on the formation, selection and performance of GB Junior Teams. • Coaching Junior rowers on a regular basis and helping to prepare crews of an international standard for their Championships. • Assisting in the running of Junior trials, assessments and camps. Following up with school and club coaches as appropriate after camps and events. • Working closely with the GB Rowing Team Development Pathway Manager and the British Rowing Pathways Team to ensure a strong link is maintained with the Performance Team in supporting talented juniors in their rowing progression. • Working with schools and clubs specialising in Juniors to assist coaches and rowers recognised as having international potential. • Working with the team that delivers the Junior Programme including the Lead Coach, Team Manager, Coaches, Administration Staff and Medical and Science Support Staff to ensure the best services are provided to improve performance in the boat. • Managing the equipment required for Junior trials, assessments, camps and competitions in liaison with the Caversham & Resources Manager, including organising its transportation. General Expectations and Responsibilities • Attending meetings relevant to the role as necessary. • Representing British Rowing publicly as necessary, including attending Coaching Conferences. • Presenting a positive image of British Rowing to stakeholders in any media context and supporting publicly the National Lottery and British Rowing partners. The post-holder should wear GB/BR clothing as appropriate. • The post-holder may not be publicly associated with or work for another organisation or sponsor in the course of his work with British Rowing without the Performance Director’s written agreement. • Following British Rowing’s Policies and Procedures and ensuring that these are understood and followed by any staff and/or athletes for whom the post-holder is responsible. Special attention should be given as appropriate to policies on safeguarding, anti-doping (including use of supplements) and water safety. • Participating in personal in-service training courses relevant to the role. 2 This list is not to be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive, as there will be other reasonable duties and requirements associated with the post, which British Rowing, through the Performance Director, may call upon the post-holder to perform from time to time. Anti-Doping The post-holder is expected to be fully conversant with the core requirements of the WADA Anti- Doping Code and its requirement on Coaches and Team Support personnel to set a good personal example in this field. When directly working with athletes the post-holder has a responsibility to inform them appropriately of the Code’s application to them and to influence them in following a ‘drug-free’ culture. Additional Information Scope The post-holder is jointly responsible for maximising rowers’ potential. Successful impact will produce motivated rowers, medal winning crews and secure funding for GB Rowing Team programmes. Hours The post-holder’s hours will be flexible to reflect the needs of the role and, while maintaining an appropriate work/life balance, will include time in evenings, at weekends and over public holidays as well as time away at competitions, trials, training camps and other GB Rowing Team activities. Leave Leave must be discussed and agreed with the post-holder’s Line Manager and authorised in advance by the Performance Director using British Rowing’s online leave system.
