WHO Brief Bio GUY, Rebecca J The Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW, Australia BSc (Medical Laboratory Science), MAppEpid (Applied Epidemiology), PhD Sydney, Australia A/Prof Rebecca Guy is Head of the Surveillance, Evaluation & Research Program and also works in the Sexual Health Program at the Kirby Institute, University of New South Wales Australia. Her research focuses on the epidemiology and prevention of sexually transmissible infections, and she has led a large number of collaborative studies, particularly in the area of clinical and public health interventions. Rebecca has extensive experience in the design of large-scale epidemiological studies in a range of populations, including complex surveillance systems, the evaluation of STI control strategies and in researching primary care-based interventions to increase the uptake of STI screening. She is lead investigator of a randomised trial (RCT) of Oral HIV self-testing among men who have sex with men; and a cluster RCT of new molecular STI point-of care tests in remote Aboriginal communities. She is also one of the lead group of investigators on the first effectiveness trial of a suite of highly accurate STI point-of-care tests that will allow health staff in participating health services in Papua New Guinea to make a correct diagnosis and provide curative treatment during routine antenatal visits. Associate Professor Guy has authored over 190 papers in peer reviewed journals and has a history of engagement with government, community groups and health organisations in both research and policy development. She sits on a number of national and state government policy and advisory groups. .
