This means that urban development must be balanced with environmental measures to ensure that urban waste and pollution do not adversely impact the lake’s highly diverse ecosystem. The basin’s urban areas are highly sensitive to climate change, particularly given the lake’s unique hydrology. The project will support urban infrastructure investments, including drainage and flood protection, wastewater management and solid waste management, in the municipalities of Steung Sen, Serei Saophoan, Kampong Chhnang and Pursat. In addition, medium term infrastructure development plans will be produced for the towns of Battambang and Siem Reap. D E T A I L S O F C O O P E R A T I O N CDIA supported activities include: a) Assist the municipalities of all six cities to undertake a rapid assessment to produce a medium term prioritized Urban Environmental Infrastructure Program for each city b) Conduct a pre-feasibility study (PFS) for wastewater and/or drainage system infrastructure and management enhancement in Steung Sen, Serei Disused Waste Water Treatment Plant in Pursat Saophoan, Kampong Chhnang and Pursat Prepare preliminary engineering designs for priority subprojects c) Conduct a pre-feasibility study for SWM infrastructure and management enhancement in Stueng Saen, Serei Saophoan and Kampong Chhnang E X P E C T E D D E V E L O P M E N T A L I M P A C T S - Selected provincial towns will benefit from improved operation and financial performance in provisions of sustainable wastewater and solid waste management services - Increase in wastewater and solid waste service coverage will benefit all residents in these provincial towns, particularly the poor population - Health risks of the residents in the selected town will decrease from improvement in sanitation and solid waste management service provision Existing waste dumpsite in Serei Saophoan - Improved drainage and flood protection will reduce damage to property and livelihoods E X P E C T E D I N V E S T M E N T F O L L O W UP PROJECT PERIOD OCT/2016 - ongoing Est. infrastructure investment value 50 mil US$ Potential sources of financing CDIA SUPPORT 670,000 US$ ADB proposed loan for Cambodia: .
