Ford, Mrs. Sarah (Sadie) A. 84, Middleton, died in the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis Tuesday, November 18, 1975. She was the widow of Dr. H. S. Ford, a housewife and member of the Methodist Church. She was a native of Tippah County and the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Jefferson Richardson of Ripley. She is a charter member of the Eastern Star, Lilly Chapter 77. Funeral services were held Thursday November 20 at 2 p. m. at McBride Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Wells Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Roy McAlilly officiated with Bro. Inge Halbert assisting. McBride Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She is survived by two sons, Hugh S. Ford, Germantown, TN; and James Q. Ford, Meridian, MS; four daughters, Mrs. Johnnie Carothers, Brownfield; Mrs. Olive Deming, and Mrs. Hazel Yancey, both of Memphis; and Mrs. Doris Bailey, Paducah, KY; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Steve Deming, Jimmy Deming, Phillip Deming, Jimmy Ford, Gene Ford, Mike Bailey, Kent Bailey and Ricky Settlemires. Fortune, Albert Percy, 95 died Friday morning, (October 17,1980) at the Union County Hospital in New Albany following a long illness. He was a retired merchant and had lived in the Pocahontas, TN. area most of his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middleton, TN. Services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Bolivar. Rev. Sam Howell and Rev. Jimmy Walker officiated. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Pocahontas. Mr. Fortune is survived by three foster daughters, Mrs. Maudie Smith, Mrs. Hazel Paseur, both of Ripley; and Mrs. Frances Lipford, Middleton; three foster sons. J. D. Young and Charles Smith, both of Middleton; and Jimmy Klinck, Pocahontas; and one sister, Mrs. Hallie Robinson, Pocahontas. Fryar, Robert Elton, 69, Ripley, died Friday October 13, 1978 in the Tippah County Hospital. he was a farmer and a member of New Prospect Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 15 at 2 p. m. in the McBride Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the New Prospect Cemetery. Bro. M. E. Gregg officiated assisted by Bro. Randy Bostwick. Mr. Fryar leaves a wife, Mrs. Allie Fryar, Ripley; one son, Robert B. Fryar, Ripley; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Jean Bullock, Ripley; and Mrs. Mary Eunice Johnson, Waukegan, Ill; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Wildmon and Mrs. Willard Shackelford, both of Ripley; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Buster Gurley, Robert Allen Fryar, Harold Wayne Jumper, John Willard Smith, Harold Smith and Greg Barkley. Gallacher, George Lang, 72, Ripley, died Wednesday (June 15, 1978) at the Tippah County Hospital. He was a Presbyterian and a veteran of World War II. Services were Friday at 10 a. m. at his residence, then the body was carried to Collins Funeral Home in Jasper, AL. where graveside services were at 3 p. m. Friday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gibson B. Gallacher, Ripley; several nieces and nephews. Ripley Funeral Home was in charge. (TJ) Gandy, Jerry White, 71, died Wednesday, March 26, 1980 in the Tippah County Hospital. He was a native of Tippah County, a retired farmer and a Baptist. Services were held Friday March 28 at 2 p. m. in Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rucker Cemetery. Bro. Jimmy Walker officiated, assisted by Bro. Bill Colter. Mr. Gandy leaves two brothers, Sport Gandy and Clarence Gandy, both of Ripley; four sisters, Mrs. Janie Montgomery, Mrs. Frankie Holland, Mrs. Lucille Stanford, all of Ripley; and Mrs. C. W. Romans, Alba, TX. Serving as pallbearers were Johnnie Jones, Vertis Montgomery, Marlin Moore, Kenneth Jones, Joe Crawford, and Jack Gandy. Garner, Mrs. Lillian Mercedes, 71, New Hope Community, Ripley, was dead on arrival at the Tippah County Hospital Friday, November 21, 1975. She was the widow of Murry Garner, a housewife and a Baptist. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 23 at 2 p. m. at Jacob's Chapel Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Clark Rakestraw officiated with Ripley Funeral Home in charge. She is survived by a son, Milton Garner, Ripley; a daughter, Mrs. Laura O'Leary, Ripley; a sister, Mrs. L. A. Adair, Keownville; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bill Garner, Jack Garner, James Garner, Gene Garner, Allen Garner, and Bobby O'Kelly. Gates, Algie Lee, 66, Walnut, died on arrival at Tippah County Hospital Tuesday January 11, 1977. He was a security guard of Candlewood Lakes in TN. and a member of Campground Methodist Church. Services were held Wednesday January 12 at 3 p. m. in Camp Ground Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Inge Halbert was the officiating minister. McBride Funeral Home was in charge. He is survived by his wife. Mrs. Susie Gates, Walnut; two brothers, Roscoe Gates, Marion, AR; and Vernon Gates, Olive Branch, MS; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Mullins, Memphis; and Mrs. Mae Mullins, Ramer, TN; Pallbearers were Terry Mullins, Bill Mullins, Bobby Wayne Mullins, James Roland, Joe Mullins, and Jodie Mullins. Gates, Marshall Elmer passed away October 22, 1979 in Fresno, CA at the age of 56. Funeral services were October 25 at 1 p. m. at Lisle Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Fresno Memorial Gardens, Fresno, CA. He leaves his wife, Margie Gates, two daughters, Mrs. Dotty Rounsville, Miss Shirley Lee Gates; four grandchildren. all of Fresno, CA. He was the son of Mr. Lee Van Gates, a brother of Mr. Clyde Gates and Mrs. Leoffie Taylor of Ripley. He was a native of Tippah County. Gibson, George W. , 65, Memphis, died in the West Ten. Chest Hospital in Memphis, Sunday, August 24, 1975. He was born at Cotton Plant, was a retired carpenter, Mason and Baptist. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 26 at 10 a. m. at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Academy Cemetery. Bro. James Lewis officiated with Ripley Funeral Home in charge. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ethel L. Gibson, Memphis; a son, Tommy Gibson, Torrance, GA; four daughters, Mrs. Peggie Coleman, Mrs. Bettie Barnes, Nashville, TN; Mrs. Billie Dean Whitlec, Mich.; Mrs. Barbara Ruth Stephens, Nashville; three brothers, H. H. Gibson, Crossville, TN; Thomas J. Gibson, Rockwood, TN; Ray Gibson, Memphis; four sisters, Mrs. Billie Turner, Memphis; Mrs. Artie Walker, Memphis; Mrs. Mary Hill, Hacienda Heights, CA; and Mrs. Avie Barlow, Arlington, TX; and a host of grandchildren. Giles, Frank Lyman, died Sunday June 20 1976 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted from the Jefferson Home of Tharp Son Theimer Tharp, Metairie, LA; Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie. Mr. Giles is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Davis Giles; three children, Frank Giles Jr. Robert Davis Giles and Nancy Giles; a brother, Clifford E. Giles, Memphis; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Bond, Jackson, TN; Glass, Thurmond, 64, Grand Junction, TN. died Sunday July 22, 1979 in the Tippah County Hospital. He was a native of Hardeman County, a farmer and a member of the Mount Bethel Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday July 29 at 2 p. m. in the Mount Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Lawrence Cole officiated, assisted by Rev. Hubbard Smith. McBride Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Mr. Glass is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys Glass, Grand Junction, TN; one son, Charles Edison Glass, Grand Junction; six daughters, Mrs. Minnie Pearl Smith, Mrs. Bernice Kimbrough, Mrs. Brenda Faye Brown, all of Chicago, Ill; Mrs. Cozell Bryant, Maywood, Ill; Mrs. Ozell Smith, Memphis TN; and Mrs. Lou Ether Baird, Ashland; two brothers, Jewel Glass, Saulsbury, TN; and Herman Glass, Maywood, Ill; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Lou Williams, Grand Junction; and 11 grandchildren. Glidewell, Mrs. Bernice, 49, died at the Tippah County Hospital Wednesday, June 23, 1976. She was a lunch room employee for the Ripley School, and a member of Whittentown Baptist Church. Services were held Thursday June 24 at 3 p. m. in McBride Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Whittentown Cemetery. Bro. Arlin Richardson officiated with Bro. Wayne Marshall assisting. McBride Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. She is survived by her husband, Marshall Glidewell; four sons, Ricky Shan Glidewell, Glen Dale Glidewell, Stevie Lindsey Glidewell, and Kevin Marshall Glidewell, all of Ripley; her mother, Mrs. Ollie Lindsey, Ripley; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Linebarger, Ripley; 2 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ralph Sanderson, Kenneth Sanderson, Bud Huddleston, J. W. Linebarger, James Cagle, Marlin Lindsey, Terry South and Junior Day. Glissen, William Pad, 74, Falkner, died Tuesday, February 26, 1980 in the Tippah County Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Tippah County, a retired farmer and a member of the Pentecostal Church. He was the son of the late William Pad Glissen and Florence Tucker Jeanes Glissen. Services were held Wednesday, February 27 at 2 p. m. in Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Tippah Memorial Garden. Bro. Jack Jolly officiated. Survivors include his wife, Wilma L. Glissen, Falkner; three sons, Edd Glissen, Falkner; Paul Buford Glissen, Ripley; and Russell Glissen, Memphis; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Brock, Falkner; and Mrs. Geraldine Dillard, Ripley; one sister, Mrs. Ella Gates, Ripley; a half-brother, Herbert Glissen; 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, the late Jamie Robbins, pre-deceased him. Pallbearers were Dale Glissen, Rocky Glissen, Sonny Cole, Bobby Gates, Gene Gates and Pete Gates. Gober, Mrs. Minnie Hodges, 86, died Thursday November 15, 1979 in Memphis. Services were held by Rev. Jack Payne Pardue, pastor of Temple Baptist Church, where she had been a member for 33 years.
