Introduction to Talkative 1.1 What is Talkative? Talkative is a communication system for people who rely on symbols to identify words. It has an extensive vocabulary designed for older children and adults. Common words are displayed on the Start grid, with links to more words organised by topic. Grid content is primarily determined by word lists, which can be easily added to or edited. Additional topic-appropriate content is provided at the bottom of each grid in the form of vocab cells, which offer useful phrases and sentence starters. After selecting a word, users are automatically taken back to the Start grid. If they have selected a verb, different verb forms appear at the bottom of the Start grid, so users can conjugate their sentences correctly. Talkative is unique among The Grid 2 grid sets. It has a large communication vocabulary which is not restricted to people who can spell. A user can locate a word without being able to spell it or know what it begins with, by searching for the symbol in the appropriate topic grid. As far as possible words have been made identifiable by a unique symbol within a grid. Talkative uses the Widgit Symbol Library images, as it requires a large symbol collection
