On January 28, 2009, Johnson C. Smith University President, Dr. Ronald L. Carter named Steven Aycock as the 20th head football coach in Golden Bull history. Aycock has over 16 years of coaching experience as an assistant and offensive lineman coach. He has brought enthusiasm, passion, tenacity, and a thorough understanding of football from various aspects. “I am determined to make Johnson C. Smith football a powerhouse in the CIAA and in Division II football,” says Aycock. “I will utilize my opportunity to showcase my knowledge of the game through my coaching experiences and develop our student-athletes into better players and people.” As a part of the previous football coaching staff in 1996, Aycock helped the Golden Bulls orchestrate an impressive 7-3 record, the first time in 15 years that the program recorded a winning season. Aycock not only brings a new energy to Golden Bull football, but he symbolizes a new era at JCSU.
