The Herekawe programme covers parts of Whalers Gate, Ferndale, Hurdon, Westown, Frankleigh Park, Lynmouth, Moturoa, and Spotswood. The possum control programme The Taranaki Regional Council is working with interested landowners and the New Plymouth District Council to MAKE YOUR NEIGHBOURHOODA FRIENDLY PLACE FOR NATIVE PLANTS AND ANIMALS increase possum control in the New Plymouth urban area. Participation in the programme is voluntary but a good level of community involvement is needed to ensure the success of the programme. PETER LANGLANDS The New Plymouth District Council already carries out possum control in parks, reserves and walkways in the area. The Taranaki Regional Council works with residents in Fantail Goldstripe Gecko Grey Warbler Ornate Skink targeted areas to establish a network of possum control on private properties around the areas of possum habitat. Herekawe Programme N The Council will engage skilled contractors to contact interested residents on suitable properties. The contractors will carry cards.ID The contractors will discuss the range of efficient and safe control methods and residents can decide on which control method they want to use. Signs in key places will advise the public of the possum control operation, the control methods being used and DEVON RD advice to supervise children and dogs in public areas. The Taranaki Regional Council will meet all of the costs of establishing and carrying out initial possum control NGAMOTU RD on private properties. SEAVIEW RD The contractor will begin working with residents in the coming weeks and it is planned to begin the initial control operation in early February and complete by mid 2016. TUKAPA ST Herekawe Stm OMATA RD Please support this exciting initiative and see your natural surroundings flourish. Huatoki Stm FRANKLEY RD Ongoing possum control GOVETT AVE After possum numbers have been reduced by the initial control operation the Council will support the residents in the programme to regularly service the network of control sites BARRETT RD and keep the possum population under control. So we’d like the residents that join the programme to be willing to continue controlling possums on their individual properties.
