Dean of the Graduate School of Christendom College: Christendom College invites applications for the position of Dean of the Graduate School of Christendom College. Christendom College, founded in 1977, is a four-year coeducational Roman Catholic Liberal Arts College with undergraduate and graduate programs offered on four campuses in Front Royal and Alexandria (Virginia), Donegal (Ireland), and Rome (Italy). The Dean of the Graduate School of Christendom College is the chief academic officer and administrative officer of the Graduate School, reporting to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs. The Graduate School was established in 1997 as the result of a merger between Christendom College and the Notre Dame Institute which was founded in 1969 by Msgr. Eugene Kevane. The Graduate School of Christendom College offers the Master of Arts in Theological Studies degree with concentrations in Systematic Theology, Moral Theology, Evangelization and Catechesis, Consecrated Life, or Spirituality. The Graduate School was also authorized by the Sacred Congregation for the Clergy to award both the Advanced and the Basic Apostolic Catechetical Diplomas; it also co-sponsors with the Institute on Religious Life the Vita Consecrata Institute (VCI) as a summer program of theological study and spiritual renewal for religious, priests, and other consecrated persons. Courses for the MA program may be taken on the Graduate School’s campus in Alexandria, VA or online, or by a combination of both formats. The Graduate School also offers courses at the undergraduate campus in Front Royal in a residency program over the summer months. The Dean advises the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and carries out the academic policies for the admission, retention, and graduation of students at the Graduate School of Christendom College. The new Dean will oversee a period of significant growth in the Graduate School as envisaged in the College’s 2014 – 2019 Strategic Plan: increasing the size of the student body over the five year period, increasing support of the graduate school’s faculty, ensuring the degree program prepares students for success at the doctoral level, overseeing the move to a new campus location, and improving the Graduate School’s IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be an individual of integrity, an intellectual leader among the faculty, an advocate for the college and the graduate school, a creative problem solver, an energetic and engaged partner in building and enhancing relationships with the school’s many constituencies and the local community, and a skilled and conscientious administrator. The Dean must hold an earned doctorate in Theology or a closely related field and should have experience in academic administration. Nominations and applications are now being accepted and review of the application materials has begun. It is anticipated that the Dean will begin service towards the end of the Spring ’16 semester.
