History The following historical note, taken from ‘Reminiscences of Margaret Eyre 1874 – 1963, further endorses the home’s uniqueness and charm:- Margaret Eyre, a local historian, suffragist and member of the Folklore Society lived at Hudnalls House for over half a century. Her grandfather was John Edward Eyre, the explorer and colonial governor, famous for his discoveries in Australia where Lake Eyre and the Eyria Peninsula are named after him. In her autobiography, Margaret Eyre said “...Papa bought The Hudnalls in 1896, partly because he fell in love with the view- there was a rabbit sitting with its paws on the railing, as if admiring the view, which took Papa mightily; also he wanted a bit of rough shooting.” JW Scott, Librarian of University College London who visited Hudnalls said “There was only one occasion when I visited her lovely house, Hudnalls, by the village of St Briavels...we crossed the River Severn and drove through the Forest of Dean, dropping down a small hill to the drive to her house.
