Künstlerische Impulse erhielt er unter anderem von Komponisten wie Bruce Broughton, Michael Giacchino, Christopher Young, Enjott Schneider, Donald J. Williams oder Klaus Badelt, sowie den Klavierpädagogen Yasuko Matsuda, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Peter Feuchtwanger, Günter Ludwig oder Cécile Ousset. Als Klavierstudent an der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover in der Klasse von Heidi Köhler schloss Felix Raffel seine pianistischen Examina mit Höchstnote ab. Zusätzlich studierte er Filmmusikkomposition an der Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg bei Ulrich Reuter und Bernd Wefelmeyer. Zahlreiche seiner Filme sind derzeit im Fernsehen und auf internationalen Filmfestivals, darunter A-Festivals wie Cannes, der Berlinale, Shanghai, oder Moskau zu sehen. Er wurde als Komponist für einige der weltweit bedeutendsten Nachwuchs- Förderprogramme als Teilnehmer ausgewählt, wie dem Berlinale Talent Campus, dem Susan and Ford Schumann Film Scoring Program beim Aspen Music Festival and School (Aspen, Colorado), für das er ein Stipendium des Deutschen Komponistenverbandes und der Paul-Woitschach-Stiftung erhielt, sowie dem renommierten ASCAP Television and Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis in Los Angeles. Seine vom Deutschen Filmorchester Babelsberg eingespielte Filmmusik zu „The Boy Who Wouldn‘t Kill“ wurde mit dem Jerry Goldsmith Award beim Filmmusik-Festival Úbeda, Spanien, ausgezeichnet – seine Musik zum Werbespot „Jugend denkt um.welt“ und des Dokumentarfilms „Theodor Storm – So komme, was da kommen mag!“ wurden nominiert. Zudem erhielt er beim „Instant Composition Competition“ des Transatlantyk-Filmmusikfestivals in Posen für seine Klavierimprovisationen den 2. Preis. Diese Auszeichnungen erhielt er aus den Händen der Filmmusik-Oscarpreisträger Michael Giacchino und Jan A.P. Kaczmarek. Neben seinen kompositorischen Aktivitäten ist Felix mehrfacher erster Preisträger nationaler und internationaler Klavierwettbewerbe: Er war Stipendiat der Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung, 1. Bundespreisträger bei „Jugend Musiziert” sowie 1. Preisträger der internationalen Klavierwettbewerbe „Città di Padova” (Italien) und „Piano Campus” (Pontoise, Frankreich) und ist nach wie vor sehr aktiv als Pianist. Darüber hinaus assistierte er dem Komponisten Benedict Mason für eine Uraufführung mit den Berliner Philharmonikern unter Sir Simon Rattle. Felix Raffel ist Mitglied der GEMA, der GVL, der Filmmusikagentur Main Title und der Filmkomponistenunion DEFKOM. He received important pieces of advice from distinguished composers such as Bruce Broughton, Michael Giacchino, David Arnold, Dave Grusin, Christopher Lennertz, Enjott Schneider, Donald J. Williams or Klaus Badelt and helpful hints from pianists like Yasuko Matsuda, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Peter Feuchtwanger, Günter Ludwig and Cécile Ousset. He completed his piano studies at Hanover University of Music and Drama with Prof. Heidi Köhler with the best mark. In addition he studied film music scoring at the University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg with Ulrich Reuter and Bernd Wefelmeyer. Felix Raffel was a scholarship holder for composition of the Yamaha Foundation. Many of his film scores have been screened on television or at international film festivals all around the world, like Berlinale, Montréal, Rio de Janeiro or Cannes. He was selected for some of the world’s leading scoring programs, such as Berlinale Talent Campus or The Susan and Ford Schumann Film Scoring Program at Aspen Music Festival and School (Aspen, Colorado), for which he was awarded with a scholarship from the Paul- Woitschach-Foundation, or the prestigious ASCAP Television and Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis in Los Angeles. He received the Jerry Goldsmith Award for his orchestral film score for “The Boy Who Wouldn’t Kill” at the Film Music Festival Úbeda, Spain – the music for the commercial “Jugend denkt um.welt”, and the documentary “Theodor Storm – So komme was da kommen mag!” were nominated. Moreover he was awarded with 2nd prize at the Instant Composition Competition of the Transatlantyk Film Music Festival in Poznan for his piano improvisations. Those prizes were given to him from Academy Award- winners Michael Giacchino and Jan A.P. Kaczmarek. Beside his composition activities, Felix successfully took part in several national and international piano competitions: He received a scholarship from the Oscar and Vera Ritter foundation at the Steinway Competition in Hamburg, and earned first prizes at the German national competition “Jugend musiziert” and the two international piano competitions “Città di Padova“ in Italy, and “Piano Campus“ in Pontoise, France. He is still very active as a pianist. In addition, he worked as an assistant for composer Benedict Mason for a world premiere of the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
