Musician’s mask, bell covers 13 Marching Band RTP Review (continued) ▪ Maintained 6-foot distance between students and staff ▪ 30 minutes of playing wind instruments with 5 minute break for air to clear ▪ Playing only or moving only ▪ Continued focus on individual skill development and small ensemble performance ▪ 440 students have rehearsed in FCPS for Marching Band Return to Play 14 7 10/2/2020 Extracurricular Activities School-sponsored activities beyond regular class activities in which the student represents the school: • e.g. Athletics, National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Government Association 15 Co-Curricular Activities Regular class activities (co-curricular) are those activities which are countywide expectations for a particular class and in which all students in the class must participate as part of their grade. ▪ These activities are designated in the course guide program overview, such as band, chorus, or drama. 16 8 10/2/2020 RTP Committee Considerations ▪ The RTP committee recommendations are based on the following: ▪ The health and safety of all athletic stakeholders (and their families) ▪ Guidance from and collaboration with the Frederick County Health Department ▪ Potential for adverse effects on returning students to the classroom (COVID-19 outbreaks) 17 RTP Committee Considerations ▪ Unanswered questions regarding the October 7th plan ▪ Number of counties participating ▪ Culminating events/state tournaments ▪ Need for additional guidance and clarification on contact sports ▪ Alignment with the majority of other counties in the state ▪ Logistical challenges and concerns 18 9 10/2/2020 RTP Committee Recommendations The RTP committee recommends the following: ▪ Continue with the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association’s (MPSSAA) Two- Semester Plan for Interscholastic Athletics ▪ Explore the potential option of a modified two- semester plan that includes earlier starting dates, longer seasons and reasonably aligns with any potential return of students to the classrooms should that option become available to LSS’s ▪ Continue Voluntary First Semester Conditioning and Skill-Based Practices 19 RTP Committee Recommendations (continued) ▪ Develop RTP guidelines that would safely allow winter sports the ability to conduct small group first semester voluntary conditioning and skill- based practices inside ▪ Develop RTP guidelines for small group access to weight and conditioning rooms in preparation for second semester competitive seasons 20 10 10/2/2020 Decision Points ▪ Timeline for athletics ▪ Co-curricular expansion to offer student participation outside of the school building ▪ Co-curricular activities expansion to offer student participation opportunities inside of the school building 21 22 11.
