GRADUATION & RECOGNITION RITES . The Recognition Rites and 60th Commencement Exercises were held last March 29 and 30, respectively with the theme BASC at its Diamond Jubilee: Paying Tribute to Society, Ushering Forth Conscientious & Productive Graduates. Respective guests of honor and speaker were Dr. Virgilio R. Villacorte, owner of the AP Group of Companies which is among the top 5,000 corporations in the country, and the Hon. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, President Pro-Tempore of the Senate of the Philippines, represented by the Hon. Ma. Milagros H. Magsaysay, Representative of the 1st District of Zambales. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES . In cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the College conducted the POEA on Wheels activity at the San Ildefonso Gymnasium last May 25. The College donated 108 pairs of slippers for elementary pupils at the locality last May 19 to the local government as part of its Brigada Eskwela activity. The College celebrated its 60th Foundation Anniversary or Diamond Jubilee last February 22-24 with the theme BASC: 60 years of Uniting Agriculture & Education, Serving as Instrument to National Stability. The following were the activities: February 22 Thanksgiving Mass Opening Ceremony Parade & Street Dance Competition – The parade was participated by all college personnel and students and the first ever college-wide street dance competition was participated by the five institutes and the Doña Remedios Trinidad Campus. Theater Show – The stage musical was entitled Romeo & Juliet starred by Sexbomb dancer Luise Bolton and Geoff Taylor. Opening of Booths – Most of the booths were organized by BASC student organizations. Theater Show (repeat performance) February 23 Solidarity Walk @ 60 – A walkathon participated by all college personnel and some students. Talentadong Pinoy Audition (by TV 5) Opening of One-stop Service Booths – Booths were opened to the BASC community and visitors for securing NSO, SSS and PAG-IBIG documents. Fun Games/Laro ng Lahi – Organized by the BASC Faculty & Employees Association, the activity was participated by both personnel and students of the College. Open House – A variety of Filipino dishes contributed by each office, department and unit in the College was served. Career Orientation Seminar – The activity was conducted simultaneously with the opening of one-stop service booths and catered mostly to BASC students. Talentadong Pinoy Audition (continuation) February 24 Kapihan sa BASC – With the topic San Ildefonso at BASC: Magkaagapay sa Kaunlaran, the discussion was attended by San Ildefonso Mayor Paula Carla G. Tan and municipal councilors, and college officials. Blessing & Inauguration of the Rene Cayetano Hall – The facility was constructed through the fund given by the Office of Sen. Alan Peter S. Cayetano. The activity served as the highlight of the three-day celebration as well. Anniversary Program – Guest Speaker Sen. Cayetano was represented by his Chief of Staff Dr. Willy Buenaventura. Other guests included Bulacan Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, 3rd District of Bulacan Rep. Joselito R. Mendoza, Mayor Tan and municipal councilors, and some members of the BASC Board of Trustees. Mr. & Ms. BASC Diamond Jubilee Coronation & Socials Night – The two activities served as the culmination events of the affair. Administrative & Financial Affairs I. RESOLUTIONS PASSED DURING THE LAST BOARD OF TRUSTEES (BOT) MEETING (See attachment.) II. 2012 USE OF INCOME (See attachment.) III. ALLOTMENT, OBLIGATION & BALANCE AS OF JUNE 15 (See attachment.) Research, Extension & Training I. RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT & TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT . Varietal Evaluation, On-farm Trials & Seed Production of Organic Vegetables in Central Luzon in Support to the National Program on Enhancing the Demand among Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources (AFNR) & State University/College (SUC) Graduates Technical experts from the Institute of Plant Breeding conducted a visit to the project during the first week of April. Improving Land and Water Productivity & Technology Integration in the Uplands, collaborated with the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) A demonstration farm was established at Brgy. Calumpang, San Miguel showcasing the following technologies: Crop production – crops planted are groundnut (1,000 m2), pigeon pea (2,000 m2), cassava (1,300 m2), sweet sorghum (2,000 m2), aerobic rice (2,500 m2), tomato and 100 papaya trees integrated with 600 pineapple plants. Vegetables planted are eggplant, finger pepper and pole sitao. Orchard production – technology intervention for 300 mango trees was conducted with the help of experts from the Ramon Magsaysay Technological University. At the latest, mango fruits harvested totaled to 700 kilograms. Animal production – acquired one Anglo-Nubian doe and one Boer buck in addition to the (around) 30 goats at the farm. A feeding system for the livestock was also developed. Vermicomposting – two vermibeds were constructed for production of organic fertilizer which in turn can be used for the crops planted. Aerobic Rice Production System: Improving Productivity in Water- scarce Areas of Central Luzon, collaborated with the Commission on Higher Education-Zonal Research Center (CHED-ZRC) Four experiment sites for second cropping were established at the Provinces of Bulacan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Bataan between January and February and ended between February and March. Food Processing The product bitter gourd pickles was developed and showcased during the opening of the Technology Commercialization Center. II. EXTENSION & TRAINING . Landbank of the Philippines (LBP)-BASC Technology Promotion Center A field day on bioyodal technology was conducted at the demonstration farm on rice and vegetables of Mr. Julian Dela Cruz, a farmer-cooperator, at Brgy. San Jose, Plaridel, Bulacan last March 30. Goat Upgrading & Production As of the present, there are 60 farmer-beneficiaries. Techno-Gabay Program (TGP) A field day and Techno-Forum on Science & Technology-based Farm (pesticide-free bitter gourd production) was conducted at Brgy. Gabihan, San Ildefonso last April 18. Palayamanan in the Community Financial assistance given to five farmer-cooperators at the Municipality of Calumpit, Bulacan amounting to PHP20,000 was collected last April 25. Financial assistance amounting to PHP172,000 was released to 43 farmer-cooperators last February 7 and 21. Papaya and vegetable production is established at the model farm located at the College.
