Richard Wong University of Texas at Austin Surfaces, Space, and Hyperspace I When you walk out of a door, you don't suddenly appear on the other side of the room! I So even though Pac-man's world looks flat, it's actually not flat at all! I When we glue together the sides, we see that Pac-man's world is the surface of a cylinder. Part I Part II Games Pac-man I But something is weird about this world: did you notice it? Richard Wong University of Texas at Austin Surfaces, Space, and Hyperspace I Not only is the right side identified with the left side, but the top is also identified with the bottom! I What happens if we glue together the corresponding sides? I The world of asteroids lives on a torus, a.k.a. the surface of a bagel. A torus.
