1a) The Story of Cinderella Read and listen to the story of Cinderella. Cinderella lives in a house with her two sisters – Barbarella and Annabella. They are lazy and they make Cinderella clean the house. Cinderella is very pretty but her sisters are ugly. One day three invitations arrive. They are for the Prince’s palace party. Barberella tears up Cinderella’s invitation. Cinderella is very sad because she loves dancing. Cinderella has a fairy godmother. She gives Cinderella three wishes. Cinderella asks for a new invitation, some transport and a party dress to wear to the Prince’s palace party. Cinderella goes to the party and dances with the Prince. At twelve o’clock she leaves but she drops her shoe. The next day, the Prince visits all the houses with the shoe. He wants to find the mysterious princess. When Cinderella tries on the shoe it fits her perfectly. Cinderella and the Prince live happily ever after. Aim To familiarise the students with the story of Cinderella and the vocabulary used in the story. Instructions Ask the students what they know about the and the story of Cinderella. Now give the students Worksheet A and ask them to read through the text underlining any difficult vocabulary. Present the difficult vocabulary on the board and the students can help each other with the meaning of the words. Then listen to the story of Cinderella. Alternative activity For students of a higher level use Worksheet B and give the students time to decide what the missing words could be from the list. This activity could be done in pairs. Ask the students for suggestions to what the words could be. Listen to see if they are correct. Use Worksheet C for the highest level students. Aim To practice giving personal information about yourself in the present simple. Instructions First, ask the students to draw a self-portrait in the box below. Then, ask the students to write about themselves using the example of Cinderella. The students should write eight sentences about themselves. When they have finished, they should introduce themselves to the rest of the class. If possible, encourage the students to use different verbs and a mixture of positives and negatives. Alternative activity For students of a higher level, the activity could be done as a third person activity with the students asking a classmate questions to discover the answers, then they could introduce their partners to the class. Aim To familiarise the students with the vocabulary of the themes used in Cinderella; clothes, colours and cleaning. Instructions In the first part of the activity the students listen to the recording and match the vocabulary with the picture. When they have successfully matched the objects the students listen to the adjectives of colour. Finally allow the students to colour the objects in. Alternative activity For students of a higher level, cover the words in the box and get them to match the vocabulary from the recording. Then check the vocabulary to see if they are correct.
