Tipperary Carrick-on-Suir is a town in County Tipperary, which takes its name from its position on both banks of the River Suir. County Tipperary is located in the province of Munster. The county is named after the town of Tipperary, and it was established in the early thirteenth century, shortly after the Norman invasion of Ireland. Tipperary is the largest landlocked county in Ireland. The region is part of the central plain of Ireland, but the diverse terrain contains several mountain ranges: the Knockmealdown, the Galtee, the Arra Hills and the Silvermine Mountains. The centre of the county is known as ‘the Golden Vale’, a rich pastoral stretch of land in the Suir basin which extends into counties Limerick and Cork. Glen of Aherlow is a lush valley in Tipperary where visitors can explore the scenery. The focal point of the Glen is a “Christ the King” statue built in 1950 with its hands raised to bless the Glen and all who pass through. The Tipperary county colours are blue and gold and the county has a strong hurling tradition as one of the top hurling teams in Ireland.
