The South Dublin County Public Participation Network (or PPN for short) is an independent umbrella organisation and network that provides a voice for all community & voluntary, environmental and social inclusion groups throughout the county. The PPN aims to enable people and organisations to express a diverse range of views and interests through local authority and other agency structures. Electing community, environmental and social inclusion representatives to local authority committees and other policy making boards and agencies. 2. Building strategic and collaborative relationships with decision makers. 3. Enabling and encouraging members to engage in public consultations. 4. Creating and working towards a vision for the well-being of this and future generations. 5. Identifying issues of collective concern and work to influence policy locally in relation to these issues. 6. Acting as an information hub. Who joins the PPN? All Community & Voluntary, Environmental and Social Inclusion groups register for the PPN. These include but are not limited to: Community Centres, Youth Groups, Residents Associations, Active Age Groups, Sports Clubs, Community Councils, Community Health Services, Community Projects, Tidy Towns, Social Support Projects, among many others. When registering for the PPN, groups must select which pillar best describes the activities of their organisation. The pillars help identify the most relevant opportunities for your group and assure suitable representation on committees. Social Inclusion The Primary focus of the group is improving the lives of those who are marginalised in society, living in poverty or in unemployment. Environmental The Primary focus of the group is environmental protection and / or environmental sustainability. Community & Voluntary All other community and / or voluntary groups. What are Linkage Groups? Most PPN representatives are elected through Linkage Groups. Linkage groups are formed to support PPN representatives on various committees. PPN representatives meet with their linkage groups before or after committee meetings to feedback progress and gather views from PPN members interested in that committee. The Secretariat is the group of PPN members who direct and guide the PPN co-ordinator. The Secretariat also oversees the day-to-day operation of the PPN and implement the PPN work plan. The secretariat is elected by the Plenary. What is the Plenary? The plenary is a meeting of the whole PPN. Each member organisation has voting rights at the Plenary. The Plenary ratifies representatives and policies. The Plenary meets twice a year and is the decision making body of the PPN.
