I was going to say welcome to our colleagues from the European Parliament but actually they are our hosts and we are very grateful for the opportunity to come here. I take the slightly flat-footed view that if you do not go and talk to people, you may not know what they are thinking about and you may not learn anything. Certainly, from past experience, it has been very fruitful to come and talk to colleagues here and to get what might be termed—and I hope this will be treated in the spirit in which it is offered—a detached British perspective of what is going on in Westminster.
