9 William Johnson of Rampside Hall d 27 June 1909 IN LOVING MEMORY OF MARGARET KITCHEN THE BELOVED WIFE OF WILLIAM JOHNSON OF RAMPSIDE HALL WHO DIED APRIL 24TH 1905 AGED 64 YEARS ALSO OF THE ABOVE WILLIAM JOHNSON WHO DIED JUNE 27TH 1909 AGED 73 YEARS The Barrow News 3 July 1909 had in its obituaries column: DEATH OF MR. JOHNSON. – The death occurred, at Rampside Hall, Barrow, on Sunday evening, of a well—known Furness farmer, in the person of Mr. William Johnson, at the age of 73 years. The deceased was a native of Kirkby and formerly had (a) parcel (of) land at Askam. He later farmed at Bridgegate Farm1 at Roose, and twenty four years ago came to Rampside Hall. He was a frequent stock exhibitor at local agricultural shows, and was at the time of his death a member of the North Lonsdale Agricultural Society and Furness District Farmers’ Association. The interment took place at Rampside Parish Churchyard on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. S.A. Adams, B.A., officiating. The relatives present included Mr. and Mrs. M. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. W. Postlethwaite, Mr. George Casson (Bardsea), Mr. W. Casson (Kirkby), Mr. and Mrs. Strickland (Barrow), Mrs. Simpson (Barrow), Mrs. Hornsby (Kirkby), Mr. W. Whinnerah (Barrow), Mrs. Holmes (Dalton), and Miss Rowlinson (Dalton). The general public included Mr. W. Huddlestone, Roose Cote; Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, Roose Farm; Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Patterson, Hall Beck; Mr. and Mrs. Pearson, Waver Farm; Mr. and Miss Groasdell, Newtown2; Mrs. Fell, Peasholmes; Messrs. J. and W. Thompson, Roosebeck; Councillor and Mrs. Ainsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson, Mr. Rowlinson (Ulverston), Mrs. Benson (Leece), Mxx Pennington and Mr. A. Edmondson (Roa Island), Mr. Cartmell (Kirkby), Mrs. Helm, Mr. and Mrs. Cookson, Mr. J. H. Thompson, Mr. R. Kellett, and Mr. M. Stables (Barrow), Mr. and Mrs. T. Walker, Miss Pennington, Mrs J. and Miss Helm, Mrs. Edmondson, Mrs. Sidaway, Mrs. Halsall, Mrs. Tyson, Mr. and Mrs. Slater, Mr. and Mrs. Melville, and Messrs. Pollitt, Mayor, Hannah and Meet, Rampside. Plate reads: TO THE GLORY OF GOD IN HONOURED MEMORY OF WM & M.K.
