The highlight being the induction of 5 people into the Badminton Victoria Hall of Fame. We were very fortunate to have 3 of these people able to attend on the night, Margaret & Stan Russell and Ron Young (who now lives in Queensland). Linley Frame was an excellent guest speaker and spoke of her achievements as well as the struggles she had to overcome in becoming a World Champion. With the Annual General Meeting and Awards night over, our focus now turns to “What’s Next” and there sure is a lot happening. The Altona Future Series (9-10-11 April) starts a very busy few months. The event has at- tracted all of Australia’s top players with the finals commencing Sunday 11th at 11.30am. Our U17 state team won in the June Bevan U17 team championships in Perth this week; and the Vic U19 titles, the Central Open & Graded and the Victorian Open & Graded are all coming up in the next couple of months. The Yonex Australian Open 13 – 18th July is in full planning mode. If you would like to be involved as a volunteer “do it now”. There are many areas to become involved with in- cluding general volunteer roles as well as line judging (the best seat in the house!) Let us know your availability and we will try and give you a satisfying role during the week. That’s some of what’s happening here........what’s happening in your area? Can we publicize it? Can we assist you with it? How can we help you? Our office administrator Matt Hill recently resigned to take on a key role with a sports re- cruiting company, we wish Matt all the best in his new position. Peter Roberts State Director It is with sadness that we share the news of the loss of a great member of our badminton community. Clara Ho, mother to Sam, Stephen, Sherwin and Stanley, and husband to Joe Ho passed away on Good Friday after losing her battle with cancer. She was an ac- tive volunteer in the junior badminton community across Australia. We wish the Ho family strength through these times. The new board is as follows: President: Loke Poh Wong Board Members: Peter Brown, Peejade Cheng, Kay Coady, Ron Gray, Paul Kern, Val Nesbitt We look forward to an exciting, productive and very full year of badminton! Goodbye ~Matt Hill It is with a touch of sadness that I am writing to let you know that I finished up here at Badminton Victoria at the end of March. I have thoroughly enjoyed my times, roles and responsibilities as Administration Manager and have been privileged to meet and work with many great people in my 11 month stint in the BV office; however an exciting op- portunity to further grow my career in the sports industry has arisen. I'd like to thank the Board and Staff for the opportunity to work at BV and for the fantastic support throughout my employment. I certainly have a far greater appreciation of badminton than when I started and am grateful everything I have learnt and experi- enced along the way. Hopefully I have left a positive mark within the badminton com- munity; I have certainly enjoyed developing relationships with all of our member associa- tions, as well as many players, coaches and officials etc. I wish you all well for the future and hope the sport continues to grow in Victoria. I look forward to keeping in touch with all the latest badminton news (I've already sub- scribed to the "Around the Courts' newsletter) and being a face in the crowd at Austra- lian Open Grand Prix! Thanks Matt! We’ll miss you. Organised but John Ansell of Traralgon, and the LVBA, Ann-Louise and Jun ran school clinics, coached juniors and newcomers to the sport, and even played a few ‘celebrity’ matches against some of LVBA’s top players. Overall, the event was a huge success and was highlighted in the local media. Great job increasing the profile of badminton in our coun- try areas! All photos courtesy of John Ansell (LVBA).
