The METRO D Line Faster transit is coming to the Route 5 corridor. Construction of the METRO D Line bus rapid transit (BRT) Brooklyn Center project is scheduled to begin in spring 2021. The D Line Transit Center Xerxes & 56th Ave BROOKLYN will substantially replace Route 5 with faster, frequent, and CENTER all-day service. This 18-mile line will connect neighborhoods Brooklyn & 51st Ave and destinations in Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, Richfield, Fremont and Bloomington. Bus rapid transit is a package of transit 44th Ave & Penn 44th Ave & Girard enhancements that adds up to a faster trip and an improved Fremont & 42nd Ave Fremont & Dowling experience. Fremont & 35th Ave Emerson The D Line will help deliver more equitable service in a Fremont/Emerson & Lowry corridor that has the region’s highest ridership, even during Fremont/Emerson & 26th Ave the pandemic. One in four households on the corridor Fremont/Emerson & Broadway doesn’t own a car and relies on transit to get to work, play, Fremont/Emerson & Plymouth 7th St & Bryant and run errands. Construction may have periods of street closures and detours, sidewalk closures, and intermittent noise. People should anticipate the following impacts: • Route 5 and other bus routes will be detoured at different points during the project. • Construction at each intersection will generally include new road and sidewalk sections, changes to traffic signals and installation of new BRT shelters and other station features. Some locations will also include utility work. • Intersections may be fully closed for up to one month with additional lane restrictions for longer time periods. Outreach staff will communicate with residents, business and property owners within one block prior to construction starting at each station location. • Sidewalk access will be maintained on at least one side of construction zones at all times. • Pedestrian access to homes and businesses will be provided. • Crews will install underground conduit for a fiber optic network along the length of the whole corridor to link technology at stations.
