INTRODUCTION A. To the Parent This publication is presented to you because your son or daughter has indicated a desire to participate in interscholastic athletics, and you have expressed your willingness to permit him or her to participate. By supporting policies that govern school competition and the conduct and training for school athletes, parents, team members and coaches can maintain a sports program with positive opportunities and experiences which foster the personal growth of all team members. High school athletics is an extension of a student’s academic day. Education-based athletic programs provide an opportunity to learn valuable lessons that cannot be obtained in a classroom setting alone. A small percentage of high school athletes go on to play college sports. A n outstanding education can help a student become successful in life.
