When the time comes, he and the Deacon enter the church and bow before the Holy Doors three times. Deacon: Bless, Master. Priest: Blessed is our God, always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Deacon: Amen. O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth who art everywhere and fillest all things. Treasury of Blessings, and Giver of Life: Come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One. Holy God! Holy Mighty! Holy Immortal! Have mercy on us! (3) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. O most holy Trinity: have mercy on us. Lord: cleanse our sins; Master: pardon our transgressions. Holy One: visit and heal our infirmities, for Thy Name’s sake. Lord, have mercy. (3) 5 Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Priest: For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory; of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Deacon: Amen. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for laying aside all excuse, we sinners offer to Thee, as to our Master, this suppli- cation: have mercy on us. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. O Lord, have mercy on us, for in Thee have we put our trust. Do not be angry with us, nor remember our iniquities, but look down on us even now, since Thou art compas- sionate, and deliver us from our enemies; for Thou art our God, and we are Thy people; we are all the work of Thy hands, and we call on Thy Name. 6 ENTRANCE PRAYERS AND VESTING Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. O blessed Theotokos, open the doors of compassion to us whose hope is in thee, that we may not perish but be delivered from adversity through thee who art the salva- tion of the Christian people. They go before the icon of Christ, and kissing it, say: We venerate Thy most pure image, O Good One, and ask forgiveness of our transgres- sions, O Christ God. Of Thy good will Thou wast pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh and deliver Thy creatures from the bondage of the enemy. Therefore with thankfulness we cry aloud to Thee: Thou hast filled all with joy, O our Savior, for Thou didst come to save the world. They also kiss the icon of the Theotokos, saying: Make us worthy of mercy, O Theotokos, fountain of tenderness. Look on us sinful men and reveal thy power as always, for we have put our hope in thee. Rejoice! we cry to thee, as once did Gabriel, the leader of the bodiless hosts. Standing before the Holy Doors, the priest bows his head and recites this prayer: O Lord, stretch forth Thy hand from Thy holy dwelling place on high, and strengthen me for this, Thine appointed service, that 7 standing uncondemned before Thine awe- some throne, I may offer the bloodless sacri- fice. For Thine is the power and the glory unto ages of ages. Amen. They turn and bow to the people, then enter the sanctuary through the south deacon’s door saying: I will enter Thy house, I will worship toward Thy holy temple in the fear of Thee. Lead me, O Lord, in Thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make my way straight before Thee. For there is no truth in their mouth; their heart is destruction, their throat is an open sepulchre, they flatter with their tongue. Judge them, O God, let them fall by their own counsels; because of their many transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against Thee. But let all who take refuge in Thee rejoice, let them always sing for joy; and do Thou dwell in them, that those who love Thy Name may exult in Thee. For Thou blessest the right- eous, O Lord, Thou coverest us with good will as with a shield. They bow three times before the Holy Table. The priest kisses the Holy Gospel, the Holy Table and the Cross, while the deacon kisses only the Cross and Table. Then each takes his robe (stikharion) and, bowing three times towards the east, says silently: O God, cleanse me a sinner, and have mercy on me. (3) 8 ENTRANCE PRAYERS AND VESTING On Great and Holy Saturday, the Entrance Prayers are said before the Plashchanitsa (Epitaphion). After O blessed Theotokos..., the deacon says: The noble Joseph..., then as usual, they go before the icon of Christ, and kissing it, say: We venerate Thy most pure image..., and the rest, as usual. When the Entrance Prayers are read preceding the Midnight Service prior to the Paschal Matins on the first day of Holy Pascha, O Heavenly King... is not said, but immediately Holy God... (3), and the rest, as usual. During Bright Week and on the Leavetaking of Pascha, after the opening blessing, O Heavenly King... is not said, but immediately the following: Deacon: Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life! (3) Before the dawn Mary and the women came and found the stone rolled away from the tomb. They heard the angelic voice: “Why do you seek among the dead as a man the one who is everlasting light? Behold the clothes in the grave! Go and proclaim to the world: The Lord is risen! He hath slain death, as He is the Son of God, saving the race of men!” In the tomb with the body and in hell with the soul; in paradise with the thief, and on the throne with the Father and the Spirit, wast Thou, O boundless Christ, filling all things. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. 9 Bearing life and more fruitful than paradise, brighter than any royal chamber: Thy tomb, O Christ, is the fountain of our resurrection. Now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Rejoice, O holy and divine abode of the Most High! For through thee, O Theotokos, joy is given to those who cry: Blessèd art thou amongst women, O Lady most pure! They go before the icon of Christ, and kissing it, say: We venerate Thy most pure image... and the rest, as usual. From St. Thomas Sunday until the Leavetaking of Pascha, after the opening blessing, O Heavenly King... is not said, but immediately the following: Christ is risen from the dead... (3) Holy God... (3) and the rest, as usual. Vesting of Deacon The deacon, with his robe (stikharion) and stole (orarion) in hand, goes to the priest and bows his head, saying: Deacon: Bless, Master, the robe and stole. The priest blesses them saying: Priest: Blessed is our God, always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Deacon: Amen. 10 ENTRANCE PRAYERS AND VESTING The deacon goes to the side of the sanctuary.
