
Fairytale Stock Characters-Characteristics Yesterday we talked about stock characters and what they are. Now we are going to talk about their characteristics. What is a characteristic? A characteristic is basically a personality trait. They are ways that someone would describe a character. Brave, silly, kind, handsome, intelligent, insane, happy etc. Now that we know the different stock characters, let’s talk about what types of characteristics they would typically have. If you’ve forgotten what some of the stock characters are, I have included their definitions in the chart below . For this worksheet, I want you to come up with 3-5 characteristics someone would expect from each of the typical fairytale stock characters. *Hint: If you are unfamiliar with fairytales, think of Disney movies or Shrek to help you with this. Stock Character Characteristics Hero/Prince/Heroine 1. These are usually one of the main characters of the story. They are the ones who save the day. This character is usually male, commonly a father, but not always. Is not evil, but allows evil people to control 2. them or makes very unwise choices. (Only 2-3 Characteristics Needed 3. Witch/Villain 1. Most fairytales have to have the bad guy, and it is very commonly an evil witch or an evil queen; not always, 2. but more often than not, that is what they are. 3.
