Internships at the Climate Impacts Research Centre Abisko, Sweden Science Communication Internships in Abisko, Sweden Are you interested in learning and applying your science communications skills in the context of exciting ecological and environmental scientific research? The Climate Impacts Research Centre is offering internships based at the Abisko Scientific Research Station, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Our research focuses on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and their interface at the edge of the Arctic. Interns work with researchers, students, and the public to communicate our fascinating and important climate research globally. If you are fluent in dynamic website and social media tools, capable with a digital camera, video and audio recording, we would like to see you in Abisko! In the spring you will encounter excellent skiing and snowshoeing. During the summer the midnight sun affords infinite time for hiking and exploring the natural landscapes. Autumn is when the darkness returns ushering in the spectacular autumn colours, blueberries, and the northern lights. These internships are available through the Erasmus Plus programme. Your Role As a science communication intern, part of your role will be to contribute to the on-going science communication activities of CIRC. Some of your daily tasks will include producing social media content, updating web content with new profile and project pages, and writing and editing blog articles for the Arctic News and Intern & Student Life blog pages. You’ll take part in fieldwork days of various CIRC projects, both to help out the researchers and also to gather photos, videos and blog content about the projects. You’ll also be expected to develop your own science communication project. Previous projects have included podcasts and community-engagement plant identification and citizen science projects. These are usually developed in partnership or consultation with SciComm Intern Coordinator, Keith Larson, and your home university. Requirements Interns must commit to at least two months (60 days) to secure funding from the Erasmus Plus student trainee program. All interns must qualify and apply for the Erasmus Plus program to cover the costs of transportation to and from Abisko, housing at the Research Station and living expenses.
