As I do so I am conscious that there is an amount of similarity, repetition almost, of last year's Foreword. I make no apology for this. There is just as much to celebrate and enthuse about in this report as there was last year, but the detail is different in a number of ways. We have the first annual report from our new Ringing Master Tom Scase, who again thanks his predecessor Jed Flatters for support, and then goes on to encourage attendance at District AGMs. I am hoping again for a good turnout at the AGM on 22nd April at Beccles so if you are reading this in advance of that date please clear your diary and come along. Tom mentions two first pealers and a number of personal milestones achieved by others as well. Congratulations are due to all of them and I am sure many, many others who have made progress toward their next personal milestone, whatever that may be. It is no surprise that the Belfry Advisory Committee have had a busy year (it seems they always do) with involvement in projects large and small, and with plenty of work in the pipeline. Let there be no doubt that alongside the various Parish initiatives and local hard work there exists this very valuable supportive resource that not only offers advice and guidance, but rolls up its sleeves and gets stuck in. And there are more bells ringable, and going better in more Suffolk towers as a result. Winston Girling is chair and he thanks all BAC members. You need last year's report to hand to make a comparison to appreciate another contribution made by Winston Girling and that is in the increased number of parishes participating in the Affiliation Scheme which Winston has taken charge of in the last twelve months or so. The Affiliation Scheme is a useful source of funding for the Guild. Again we see a slight decline in membership, and I would appeal to each of you to try and recruit additional members when you are out ringing or socialising. The Guild finances remain in good shape, although general running costs continue to increase slightly while subscription income falls slightly. That is the shortest of summaries that in no way reflects the very significant amount of work that goes into managing the finances and also into the preparation of the accounts by our Treasurer, Owen Claxton. Well done and thanks to all other contributors not just for the reports but also for the huge amount of work done on behalf of all of us and the Guild. And thanks to Michelle Williams for another Annual Report. I should also like to record our thanks to our advertisers whose continuing support makes funding our report that little bit easier. There is a huge amount more in these pages that reflects commitment, energy and just the pure enjoyment of ringing. Recognition and thanks are due to so many of you. EnJoy the report; enjoy your ringing. 6 6 Obituaries Bridget Sayers - Earl Stonham Bridget joined the Earl Stonham band about 15 years ago when she, and her husband Brian, moved to the area. Her father had been a previous Rector of Earl Stonham and her widowed mother was still living in the area. Bridget learnt to ring in Hythe about 40 years ago and had rung quarters and a peal. She and Brian quickly became valuable members of the church and of the ringing band, including being active in the restoration and augmentation in 2004. Her friendship and ringing ability was a great bonus to the band. She will be greatly missed by the Earl Stonham ringers and those who knew her. Dr Peter S. Franks Dr Peter S. Franks MBBS (Lon) DRCOG lived at Bacton, and latterly at Ardleigh, Essex.
