That success stems from collaboration with all of you – 70,000 individuals whose combined talents and drive to be the very best make us the nation’s most-progressive health system. Some of our greatest achievements come from community partnerships, putting our expertise to work with on-the-ground knowledge and resources. These pages highlight some of the most recent examples of how we have distinguished ourselves, including community collaborations that improve Michael Dowling the quality of life for the millions we serve throughout the metropolitan area. Our growing reputation for clinical quality was reaffirmed with a record 23 national rankings in the latest US News & World Report survey on the nation’s best hospitals (see page 4). In addition, our cardiac surgery programs were recognized by the Society for Thoracic Surgery (see page 11), while the American College of Emergency Physicians lauded us for the quality of geriatric care we deliver in our 17 emergency departments (see page 38). We also continue to make enormous inroads in local public schools, whether delivering care to students, helping staff identify and address the social determinants of health (see page 12), or augmenting school nurses’ practical know-how (page 8). We’re also doing incredible volunteer work in underserved countries, helping to care for needy patients and supplementing scarce medical supplies (see page 16). Thanks to all of you, we’re saving lives locally and globally. 2019, Volume 2 | The New Standard 3 Breaking down US News & World Report rankings Five Northwell hospitals receive high honors Five Northwell Health hospitals have achieved The hospitals received 23 Top-50 national rankings overall, which “reaffirms the national rankings in US News & World Report’s extraordinary talent, commitment and dedication of our clinical teams across the 2019-20 Best Hospitals survey.
