Power Partnerships: How Canada-U.S

The Wilson Center’s Canada Institute presents Power Partnerships: How Canada-U.S. Hydroelectric Partnerships Reinforce America’s Clean Energy Economy with His Excellency Gary Doer, Canadian Ambassador to the United States The Honourable Greg Selinger, Premier of Manitoba and panelists Richard Caperton, director, Clean Energy Investment, Center for American Progress Tony Clark, commissioner, FERC David McMillan, executive vice president, Minnesota Power Stephen Molodetz, vice president, business development, Hydro-Québec-US As energy policy conversations move forward in 2013, “all of the above” options must be considered in developing new and renewable sources of energy. Join us for a discussion of the growing cooperative relationship between U.S. utilities and the Canadian hydroelectric industry, and how they complement each other. For more than 40 years, Canadian hydropower has provided reliable baseload power to the U.S. electric grid. It has contributed to lower power prices and has helped reduce overall GHG emissions. Hydro’s proven technology is also encouraging the development of other renewables through large-scale energy storage, and acts as a backstop to more intermittent resources such as wind and solar. Please join us to hear representatives from industry, public utilities, think tanks, and government officials from the United States and Canada speak about this important yet often overlooked energy partnership. David Biette, director, Canada Institute will serve as moderator Monday, February 25, 2013 1:00p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars 5th Floor Conference Room Please allow extra time to enter the building.
