Annual Report FY2017 Dear Arts Council friends and members, Board of Directors FY 2017 It is with great pleasure that we present our fiscal year 2017 Annual Report. As Officers you will discover, there is always something fun and creative happening at the Arts President Council—and it all happens thanks to your support. Buzz Bartlett (through June 2017) Community Liaison This past year, we launched a new website featuring the comprehensive online Julie Hughes Jenkins (from June 2017) county-wide arts calendar. The site, designed by local developer NextLOGiK, has Corporate Office Properties Trust received four prestigious design awards so far! Be sure to browse the site, check out the Vice President calendar, post events, and help us spread the word about the arts in Howard County. Julie Hughes Jenkins At the Howard County Center for the Arts, 35,000 visitors explored our galler- Julie Hughes Jenkins, President (through June 2017) Corporate Office Properties Trust ies, attended classes, or enjoyed performances in our community black box theatre, landing us again on the Baltimore Business Journal’s top arts organization and tourist Secretary Sharonlee Vogel attraction lists. And, our creative, community-based programs—such as Paint It! Jim Henstrand We are, of course, incredibly grateful for the tremendous support we receive from Severn Bank Howard County Government. For 36 years, we have partnered with the County to Directors Robert Altieri establish a vital and diverse arts community. In FY 2017, we received $800,000 from Howard Bank Howard County to foster the arts. Jordana Guzman In addition, the grant we received from the Maryland State Arts Council increased Davis, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny 19 percent—a record high—thanks to Governor Hogan and our county delegation in Mary Kay Kenney Annapolis. Their investment in the arts is critical to ensure public access to the arts and to Maryland University of Integrative support creativity and diverse art forms in our community. Community Liaison & Musician It was also an eventful year for the arts in Columbia with the transfer of ownership of Chester Stacy Merriweather Post Pavilion to the Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission, the Chester Creates opening of the stunning Chrysalis amphitheatre, and the kick-off for Columbia’s extraor- George Wilson HCPSS Fine Arts Advisory Council dinary 50th birthday celebration featuring scores of community tributes and arts-related events. What an incredible homage to the vision of James Rouse and Columbia! We helped kick off Columbia’s 50th in style with our Celebration of the Arts gala featur- ing Padraic Kennedy as Honorary Chair and a special Rising ALL-Star Competition. Over 500 artists and guests attended—raising $111,600 to support the arts in Howard County.
