Visit the Careers Library Located at the back of the school library, the Careers Library has a wealth of information on University and College Courses as well as details about a range of careers. 2. Speak to our Independent Careers Adviser Located in the Year Room, the Independent Careers Adviser is there to help you decide your next step. Speak to your form tutor to make an appointment. 3. Get Online UCAS Progress Search: http://www.ucasprogress.com Find details for courses at all further education colleges and Sixth Forms in the UK. LeCAP Online: https://www.lecap-leics.org Remember, all applications for Ashby Sixth Form and further educa- tion colleges will be made online this year. UCAS: http://www.ucas.com Search university courses and entry requirements at the UCAS web- site. 10 Have you heard about: LeCAP? As you may have probably heard by now, as an Ashby student you will be using an online application system for any application you make to Leicestershire Colleges or Ashby’s Sixth Form. Remember, it is vital that you have completed the online application and sent it to your tutor by the 31st January 2013 in order for it to be submitted in time. LeCAP can be accessed at https://www.lecap-leics.org 11 10 Top Tips for writing a CV! Make it a suitable length- 1 side of A4 is ideal. Write your CV on a computer and save a copy so that you can change it and print off further copies whenever you need to. Use a clear structure and layout. Use spell checker and get somebody to read it and check for errors. Be positive- emphasise your achievements, success, skills and qualities. Tailor your CV to the job you are applying for – if the job demands computer skills stress this in your CV. Include information about your education history and any work experience that you have. Include at least two referees. Don’t lie on your CV! Use online CV builder (by following the link below) to identify your skills and qualities, to find out more about CVs and to create your own CV in 12 easy to follow steps. https://nextstep.direct.gov.uk/gettingajob/cvsandcoveringletters 12 What are employers looking for in an interview? Punctuality- find out where the interview is and plan your journey. Aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before the interview time. Smart dress- decide what you want to wear and get it ready the day before. Aim for a clean, neat and tidy appearance. Confidence- practice entering the room, looking the interviewer in the eye, shaking hands and introducing yourself. Knowledge of company and role you are applying for- research the company by either ringing and asking for information or by looking on their website. Interest and enthusiasm- ask questions about the company/ organisation and show that you are passionate about the role you are applying for.
