TDFL League Chronology The Tallangatta and District Football League was officially formed in 1945 comprising six teams-Bethanga, Fernvale, Granya, Mitta/Eskdale, Sandy Creek and Tallangatta and kicked off on the 21st April 1945. The 1945 season saw the Tallangatta Magpies defeat Fernvale in the Grand Final at Sandy Creek on the 21st July to become the Leagues first official Premiers. 1946: 6 teams. Bethanga, Fernvale, Granya, Mitta/Eskdale, Sandy Creek and Tallangatta 1947: Sandy Creek left, Bullioh Valley admitted, Mitta/Eskdale split to form Mitta Town & Mitta Valley. 7 teams. Bethanga, Fernvale, Granya, Mitta Town, Mitta Valley, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley. 1948: Bethanga left. 6 teams. Fernvale, Granya, Mitta Town, Mitta Valley, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley. 1949: Mitta Town drop out, Bethanga rejoin. 6 teams. Fernvale, Granya, Tallangatta, Mitta Valley, Bullioh Valley, Bethanga. 1950: Sandy Creek return, Mitta Town reformed. 8 teams. Fernvale, Granya, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley, Bethanga, Sandy Creek, Mitta Town. Mitta Valley. 1951: Bethanga did not field a team, Mitta Valley changed its name back to Eskdale. 7 teams. Fernvale, Granya, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley, Sandy Creek, Mitta Town, Eskdale. 1952: Granya drop out, Bandiana formed. Bethanga and Kiewa rejoin the League and Eskdale merged with Mitta Town and become Mitta United. 8 teams. Fernvale, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley, Sandy Creek, Kiewa, Bethanga, Mitta United, Bandiana. 1953: Granya return, RAEME form replacing Bandiana. Kergunyah join. 10 teams. Fernvale, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley, Sandy Creek, Kiewa, Bethanga, Mitta United, RAEME, Granya, Kergunyah. 1954: Granya Football Club disband, Tawonga join, RAEME drop out. 9 teams. Fernvale, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley, Sandy Creek, Kiewa, Bethanga, Mitta United, Kergunyah, Tawonga. 1955: Dederang join. 10 teams. Fernvale, Tallangatta, Bullioh Valley, Sandy Creek, Kiewa, Bethanga, Mitta United, Kergunyah, Tawonga, Dederang. 1956: Bethanga left. 9 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Fernvale, Bullioh, Sandy Creek, Tawonga, Dederang, Kergunyah and Kiewa. 1957: Yackandandah and Bethanga rejoin, Fernvale fold. 10 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Bullioh, Sandy Creek, Tawonga, Dederang, Kergunyah, Kiewa, Yackandandah, Bethanga. 1958: Bandiana, Barnawartha and Lavington admitted, Bethanga & Granya merge to form the Bethanga/Granya Bombers. 13 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Tawonga, Dederang, Kergunyah, Kiewa, Yackandandah, Bandiana, Barnawartha, Lavington, Sandy Creek, Bullioh, Bogong. 1961-63: As above 1964: Bogong merged with Tawonga to become Bogong/Tawonga. Bandiana withdraw. 11 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Dederang, Kergunyah, Kiewa, Yackandandah, Barnawartha, Lavington, Sandy Creek, Bullioh, Bogong/Tawonga. 1965: Bandiana rejoin. 12 teams. Reserve Grade competition starts. Lavington defeat Tallangatta to become the Leagues first Reserve Grade Premiers. 11 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Dederang, Kergunyah, Kiewa, Barnawartha, Lavington, Sandy Creek, Bullioh, Bogong/Tawonga, Bandiana. 1969: Yackandandah re-admitted but the club only field Reserve Grade team. Kiewa and Sandy Creek merge. 10 teams. TDFL Thirds competition begins. 11 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Dederang, Kergunyah, Barnawartha, Lavington, Kiewa/Sandy Creek, Bullioh, Bogong/Tawonga, Yackandandah, Lavington Rangers. 1975: Bogong/Tawonga change name to Mt Beauty and Kergunyah became Wodonga Demons. 11 teams. Tallangatta, Mitta United, Dederang, Wodonga Demons, Barnawartha, Lavington, Kiewa/Sandy Creek, Bullioh, Mt Beauty, Yackandandah, Lavington Rangers. 1976: Bethanga reform, Dederang and Mt Beauty merge to form Dederang/Mt Beauty Football Club. 11 teams. TDFL Fourths competition begins. Somewhere between 1973 & 1981 Lavington Rangers leave the league. 1981: Holbrook and Culcairn admitted, South Albury disband. 10 teams. Tallangatta Valley, Mitta United, Dederang/Mt Beauty, Wodonga Demons, Barnawartha, Kiewa/Sandy Creek, Yackandandah, Bethanga, Holbrook, Culcairn. 1982-87: As above. 1988: Thurgoona Football Club admitted. 11 teams. Tallangatta Valley, Mitta United, Dederang/Mt Beauty, Wodonga Demons, Barnawartha, Kiewa/Sandy Creek, Yackandandah, Bethanga, Holbrook, Culcairn, Thurgoona. 1989: Wodonga Demons leave to become Wodonga Raiders & join the Ovens & Murray FL. 10 teams. Tallangatta Valley, Mitta United, Dederang/Mt Beauty, Barnawartha, Kiewa/Sandy Creek, Yackandandah, Bethanga, Holbrook, Culcairn, Thurgoona. 1990-91: As above 1992: Culcairn leaves to join the Hume League. 9 teams.
