Committee Modernization Plan

Committee Modernization Plan

COMMITTEE MODERNIZATION PLAN Starting at the 2019 NASDA Annual Meeting, NASDA will establish a new policy commit- tee structure that: • maintains voting and approval by all members on all policy actions, and • includes each state having an opportunity to be represented on up to three committees. Purpose: To increase member engagement on policy issues by creating new committee structure that will foster a robust policy dialogue and generate meaningful, strategic direction for the NASDA Policy Team. How Our New Structure Will Work: • Two Policy Committees will meet concurrently, which means there will be three blocks of “commit- tee time” during each NASDA meeting. • Members (or their proxies) will be allowed to serve on three policy committees. States may attend all committee meetings, but states will only be allowed to vote in the three committees they are members of. • Final votes on Policy Amendments and Action Items will be taken during the NASDA Business Meeting by all members (or their proxies). 2019 Annual Meeting Concurrent Committee Schedule Plant Agriculture | Marketing & International Trade Food Regulation | Natural Resources Animal Agriculture | Rural Development Subject to change according to scheduling needs of committee leadership. Note: Per NASDA policy, Action Items and Policy Amendments that are submitted after the policy deadline are required to be submitted via a regional meeting and require a 2/3 vote. This 2/3 threshold is required for the committee vote on recommendation to the full membership and for final passage during the business meeting.
